Being a noob it would really help me to hear samples of what people refer to:growl, tone, mid range, low end, effects of a low pass filter, etc.
Perhaps this has been done to death...perhaps not.

How about a common format for post:
mp3 file (upload as attachment...will this work here?)
Bass:
Neck:
NeckType:
Body:
Frets:
Fingerboard:
Bridge:
NeckPU:
MiddlePU:
EQ/Tone controls

This might serve us to give us a common reference point for discussions, etc.
Plus if someone can test and post frequency - imagine how much we could learn!

I tried to upload my sample, but the 150K limit will make uploading samples an issue.
I am willing to take samples and post them on my web site, if ya'll want to do this.

The Fog

Bass: '87 Spoiler
Neck: 3 piece Maple
NeckType: Neck Through body
Body: Mahogany with Coco Bolo or Bocate top
Fingerboard: Ebony
BridgePU: AXY, on
NeckPU: AXY, on
MiddlePU: N/A
EQ/Tone controls: Filter at 3/4 through a Digitech BP-8, intro = 2 tracks, one with an extreme phaser. Also used the Jazz bass for the low B where the guitar solo begins.

Weird stuff

Bass: Same Alembic as above (could be the '83 though, I don't remember...anyway, the specs are almost the same. Solid Koa body on the '83) Main riff = a Fender Jazz Bass V (1996 Anniversary ltd edition)
Neck: one piece Maple
NeckType: Bold on
Body: Alder with Flame Maple top + back
Fingerboard: Pao Ferro
BridgePU: Fender Jazz V, on
NeckPU: Fender Jazz V, on
MiddlePU: N/A
EQ/Tone controls: too long ago to remember :-)

Sorry for these crappy recordings :-)

In answer to your question; no, you can't upload sound files to the board. Most folks here have sound files on other servers and link to them.

Me too! Post a website where it is available for purchase. Maybe there should be a section in the forum where Alembic club members could post there commercially available CD'S and DVD'S. I ordered the Apache Indian DVD and I would love to get the Doomtree CD also.

You are all too kind! Its also available at Best Buy, Virgin, FYE and other retailers. We are distributed by Koch so any local shop can order it. As Dave so kindly posted, Amazon, CD now, Ebay etc. Careful that an ebay one is not a demo. The full version has some video of rehearsals and recording/mixing. Thanks in advance!
