Could someone point me towards the threads where the specific setup of knobs, filters, etc for casady's alembics and lesh's are posted? I am forming a design in my head and would like to check somethings out. I've tried searching and will continue - but maybe someone know this off the top of their head

thanks

Hi Joe,
I assume you've seen the Artists and their Alembics thread in the Showcase. The short answer is..there aren't any threads that discuss these basses in detail distinctly. Alembic has made intruments for dozens(hundreds?) of stars and thousands of fans/players. They care about all of the instruments, but don't divulge personal anecdotes very often.
They're in business to sell instruments, not tell stories. We've had the suggestion before in the forum that the whole Alembic story would be some riveting reading, if it ever gets written.
Jeff - I still love Phil's tone on Europe '72.

I'm with you, Flax - well, it or the Osage Orange bass.

At the 2002 Grateful Dead family reunion at Alpine Valley, I stood in front of the gear display, just staring at the Godfather/Big Brown for almost half an hour. Gave me shivers even though Phil wasn't playing it.

I never thought I'd see him use it live, but then at the Patriot Center 12/2/05 he busted it out for a barnburning Viola Lee > Caution > Feedback > Viola Lee. And I was right up front, about 15 feet from him!

I couldn't believe the incredible clear rich tone of Big Brown. He was mostly messing with it to get feedback, but when he had the controls near normal, it generated a creamy fundamental that shook me in my shoes.

That was the moment I decided that, despite having several amazing basses including an Orion, I *had* to obtain an old Series bass. Less than a month later, 78-1140 came my way, and we're living happily ever after.
