Hi am am new to to Alembic family, i just bought an 86 persuader with birdseye maple topper and P/J actives in it. its gorgeous, i have not played it yet as it is still being shipped. i play rock, funk, and i play in my church band. i was just wondering how these basses ranked in the alembic list like are they the high line basses or what? and whats the difference in the electronics and things like that. i pretty much bought this bass on a whim and think i got a good deal at 800 bucks. any info about these basses will be greatly appriciated. thanks Josh |

Welcome to the club, Josh, The Persuader is no longer in production, although it can still be custom ordered. I believe that today it would have a list price of about 3000$ or so, depending on the options. The production instrument that most closely matches its specs would be the Essence, I believe, which is essentially the same bass but in a different body style. Personally I'd say that all Alembics are 'high line" as you put it; there are several models that are more expensive that the Persuader. A top of the line Alembic (the Series II) lists at 9600$ currently. In terms of playability and sound they are all great. Much of the price difference with the more expensive models is due to cosmetic/wood upgrades. In other words: you got a killer bass at a great price and I'm sure you'll love it.
