So many people talk about getting the Q switch in different positions or setting positions. I hope this isn't a dumb question but- why hasn't the Q switch been manufactured like a pot or dial that you could turn instead of a switch so that you could really rotate it and dial in exactly what you want? Thanks, Paul |

Paul, That's what you get with the Series II. Instead of a Q switch, you get the CVQ (continuously variable Q) for each pickup. Toby BTW: Paul, if you're still interested in hearing some sound clips of the filters w/ Q switch engaged and not engaged, let me know. I purchased a firewire recording interface for my computer and I could probably record some clips if you're intersted. I'd still need to find a site that I could use to host the audio files, but I assume that's easy enough to do. If your interested, shoot me an email (in my profile) and let me know. Wow tbrannon, First of all thanks for the quick reply. Man, what a great answer. Cuz I have a Series II on order as you probably are aware of and all this time I've been reading forum and never picked up on the fact that the Q in Series II is variable. You just made my day, my week and my month by telling me that. Awsome. Secondly I would love to hear any sound bites I could of a Series II as being in Hawaii here I've never been able to let alone play one but hear one either. So you would be treating me to a real high! If you don't get this I'll respond on your e-mail. Thank you very much, P |

Paul, I don't have a Series II- I have a Rogue that has been upgraded to Signature electronics. So, I have Vol, Pan, and a filter + 2 position Q for each pickup. Email me and we'll discuss what I can record for you to hear. Keep in mind that your Series II will be infinitely more tweakable with the variable Q. My Q is the standard 2 position, so it's not near as flexible as what you're gonna have in your hands. Toby (Message edited by tbrannon on April 14, 2007) |

Ya but I would love to even hear yours as I am dying to just hear some Alembic stuff period and I would love to hear your Rogue as my friend in Felton has one and I have never been able to hear his either and I'm the one who talked him in to buying the Alembic in the first place. I only have an Excel and it's awesome. thanks, P |

Paul, If you didn't get the first email- with the file attached, let me know because that is the one where I explain what you'll be hearing filter/pup wise. If that one didn't make it through, email and I'll shoot off the text explanation to you again. Toby |

George, I'm finding it much easier to email the compressed MP3 files than to host them.... All the file contains is a scale being played with the filter wide open, then rolled back incrementally down the filter range (5 stops along the way). I do this twice (different R hand placements) on the neck pickup and then twice on the bridge pickup. I did it for Paul because he's in Hawaii and doesn't have the opportunity to hear a filter equipped bass. I felt his pain, because being in NZ I was in the same situation when I got mine. It's no fancy playing- just a simple exercise that I hope helped give him an idea of the range of available sounds in a filter equipped bass. If you'd really like to hear it, and your email will allow large attached files, let me know and I'll email it to you. Toby |
