The new pickups, electronics, modifications to the body (extra routing), extra shielding, new backplates, power supply, cord, calibration would set you back over $3K. You might find a Superfilter useful, which is much less ($795 list) and can be used without modifying your bass (plus you can use it will all your basses/guitars). Many renter's or homeowner's insurance policies can have a special rider attached for a specific high-value item. We usually recommend you insure for replacement value, and discuss this with your agent. Current retail replacement value is $3500 (what we would charge to make a new one), but the prices are going up on April 15. If you plan on doing any traveling with the bass you must carry your own insurance. I found out the hard way that most airlines only insure checked bags for about $300.
