Hi Yekcko. It looks to me like the wood on your Rogue is probably WENGE. (When-gay) Your electronics appear to be standard Rogue/Europa electronics. If so (almost certainly so -as they match the standard configuration) the three knobs are: master volume; pan/balance/blend (there is a center detent -which is the 50/50 position); and the famous Alembic "low pass filter". A description of the filter can be found here: http://alembic.com/club/messages/16271/16376.html?1107726471 The standard setup for the 3 toggle switches for a Rogue or Europa is that 2 of the 3 toggles are 3-position switches, and the 3rd is just a 2 position switch. (If all 3 toggles are 3-position switches -which is statistically unlikely- then you have a custom upgrade.) In general, Rogues have 2 3-position switches, which are bass and treble boost/flat/cut switches. Once you realize this, it's pretty easy to figure out. Both toggles are "flat" in the center position. Flick 'em one way and you'll get a moderate (6 db) boost; flick 'em the other way and you'll get a moderate (6 db) cut. Once you realize this, it should be pretty easy to figure out which is bass, and which is treble -just by listening and hearing what they do. The 3rd toggle is the "Q" switch. It's a 2-position switch, standard. The 2-position switch is basically an "off/on" switch for the "Q". The Q works with the filter to add a (usually 8 db -unless you have a custom/customized instrument) to the frequency selected by the "low pass filter." You can also reference the official description of Rogue/Europa controls here: http://alembic.com/club/messages/16271/16370.html?1107721317 The "Q" is a big part of the Alembic sound. The best way to hear what it does is to have your fretting hand "hammer on" a couple notes repeatedly while your other hand turns the filter. When the "Q" is on, you'll hear a very noticable "wah wah" effect. I recommend hammering on on one of your middle strings on one of your middle frets. You WON'T hear this "wah wah" effect if/when the "Q" is turned off. For more/further info, dig around a little here: http://alembic.com/club/messages/16271/16271.html?1177124729 P.S. Congrats on the Rogue, it looks great! How's it sound, feel, and play? |

Hey Yekcko, If you really want info straight from the top why don't you back up a thread and go to "Owning An Alembic" and enter the thread "Serial Number/History requests". This will hopefully lead you to the information you are looking for regarding your bass. Thank you, Paul |

Yes, that is the standard/ideal procedure... but since you indicated you'd had trouble getting your posts to go thru, I took the liberty of responding to this post which DID go thru. By the way, it is the top laminate which I think is Wenge. The body material is usually Mahogany -but I can't tell from the picture. The neck woods are clearly the standard Rock Maple -and they typically have thin Walnut veneers separating them. |
