I've been using an F1X preamp for over 10 years, and I gotta say that it's the greatest! I get more compliments on my sound, and I have to blame it on the Alembic pre. I'm thinking about using it for my upright rig as well. I know a lot of people say don't use tube pre's for upright, but it's worth a shot. I know I need a ultra high impedance rating on the input (>million ohms?) Anyone know? I don't have a manual and I couldn't find it on the site. Thanks! |

Compliments on your sound? I'm know the Alembic is great, but I know you probably play as well. That helps. As for the impededance, I have no idea. I have heard of some upright people, err, upright players using some sort of impedance buffer before going into the amp or what-not. T |

My 1934 American Standard upright sounded like, well, you know, all scratchy and tinny through every amp I ever tried. UNTIL I got my F-1X. Now, it sounds like my bass, only louder. Pizz or arco it doesn't matter. I've used both a Fishman BP-100 and a Schertler Stat. The tube and the F-1X circuit are the answer (in my humble, distinctly biased opinion). Oh yeah, I asked an electronics guy to look at the schematic on the F-1X and tell me what the input impedence was.... If I recall correctly, he said that input 2 is 1 Meg-ohm and input 1 was a bit more. I may have that reversed, but anyway, it's at least 1 Meg-ohm, and that's what the Fishman (or almost any piezo I've read about) wants to see. By all means, plug that upright straight into that F-1X and don't look back. :-D C-Ya.........wayne |

I have found my best upright sound to be through the F-1X. I do run it through a Fishman Platinum eq, especially when I need to bring the volume up, simply to be able to eq feedback out. At home, though, I like it best going straight into that F-1X. The Schroeder 4X10 is a nice box for upright, too. Andy Calder www.andycalderbass.com |

Input #1 is 1Meg, #2 is 136K. |
