Mica,

Can you give me a serial number trace on my new bass: 02X12757 USA

And also, the output jack on this bass seems a little flaky. I have to keep the cable about 1/8" from fully in to get the output to work properly. I took the bass back to Bass Central in Orlando where I bought it, and Grasshopper tried to get it to work proper, but he also thinks the jack is bad. What can I do about this?

Have you tried a different cable? Some manufacturers have made connectors with varying lengths (and gasp, even widths). The jack is made by Switchcraft and is a standard part, so it will compatible with standard 1/4" connectors.

If you believe the jack is bad, the only thing you can do is replace it. I'll be happy to send you a replacement part (or to Grasshopper as you require).

As for specs, here's what I know about 02X12757 XLB5:

top: Zebrawood
accent: Purpleheart
body: Mahogany
set neck: Maple with Walnut veneers
fingerboard: Pau Ferro no inlays
2 MXY56 pickups with volume, pan, bass , treble controls
originally sold to: Bass Central, FL
birthday: April 10, 2002 (it's almost 1 year old!)

If you haven't already registered your bass, please do so. And let me know if you want a replacement jack sent to you or Grasshopper.

Grasshopper just called me with your mailing address. I'm sending you a 1-volume assembly, so you can unplug the wiring harness and connect the new one without a soldering iron. There will be a return label in the package to send back the defective part. Le me know if you have any questions about installation.

Mica, thanks for sending out the part! I will make sure that I send you back the original parts as soon as I replace them. I have not registered the bass yet, as I have been traveling for work quite a bit, and my Internet access is very limited.

I noticed that you stated the body was Mahogany, but I think that is incorrect. I am 99.99% sure that the body is Ash. I will attach a picture as soon as I get home long enough to get the digital camera setup.

Also, I want to order the new tone controls and modules for my 1995 Epic 4-String as per our earlier conversation. Should I contact you directly?

Also, the zebrawood on this new guitar is much whiter than my Epic. Is this just natural variances in the wood? My Epic's zebrawood is more yellowish in color, and the grain is drastically different. Again, I will attach a picture once I get home and can get my Epic back from my brother.

Thanks! -Jeff

You're right about the Ash - I was on autopilot!

You can contact me about any other parts you need, but I think I've got an order for Epic electronics fo ryou from bass Central as a drop ship - I'll combine the replacement with that shipment.

Most woods have a hugh variation in color, grain, density. I think most of us in the US anyway see the way all the red oak furniture looks and figure wood is wood. You should see what Zebrawood looks like when it's flatsawn, in the next post.

Stop!!! I love Zebrawood..... Where's the spare credit card....... Must order a Europa......... Must order a Europa........

Let me know if you do have the electronics for the Epic on a drop ship order please. I wasn't sure if this is what Grasshopper was going to do or not. Now, I have to find that digital camera to take pictures!

If you don't mind me asking, too, what's the third routed "pickup" position for on the picture above? I am going to guess that it's a Rogue body.

The third routing ( the smaller one) is not for a pickup but rather for the brass sustain block the bridge is mounted on. And you're right, that sure looks like a Rogue

Mica, did you see my question above? Did you ship the 1-volume assembly to me or Bass Central?

What about the Epic parts? Sorry, on the road, and phone's dead!

The skinny route below the pickups is for te bridge block. I also happen to know that bass will be for sale at superbass.net at the end of this week. The owner actually bought that one for himself, but fell in love with a Spyder bass that he's decided to keep. There are lots of nice appointments on that zebrawood custom Rogue.

Parts were shipped to you directly, you should see them in a day or two.

Thanks Mica. When the time comes for my next bass, I will have to ask you to put some of your zebrawood samples up on the webpage. I am going to start putting away for a Europa.
