I need opinions from the Alembic owners out there .I'm left handed and its extremely difficult to find quality left-handed instruments let alone Alembic brand . Currently on e-bay ,a left handed Alembic Epic (seller has corrected himself from heading of Alembic Orion)- what is a fair price of a used Epic ? Currently a $600.00 with less then two days to go ..If I don't hear from anyone I will probably bid up to a grand with the thought that I can sell it if I don't like it . Any and all opinions will be very much appreciated . Thank you , DJ |

You should be ok. At 600 to 1000 dollars this would be a good deal, but be careful. There have been a lot of scams dealing with Alembic products on ebay.Do you know the seller?,what is the condition?,does he have a good rep.?,is he a dealer?,what about a return policy?. Good luck and let us know how this works out. Chuck P.S. some pics.would help. |

Here is a link to the auction The listing says it has filters- It sure looks like it has the standard Epic/Orion controls to me. The bass looks to be in good condition (based on the not so good pictures)- but there are quite a few flaws in the listing- take that for what it's worth. It might just be an uninformed seller based on the low starting price. I'd say you should proceed with whatever caution you feel is necessary. If it were me, I'd ask for a picture of the serial number and for some clearer pictures before proceeding. In terms of a good price- anything under $1000 is a GREAT deal and anything under $1500 seems to be at least reasonable based on the fact that there are fewer lefty's and it's a 5 string with a nice top. I'm sure others will chime in and there are a few here who follow the eBay listings very closely and can probably give you some very accurate numbers to shoot for. Good luck. Toby |

Welcome DJ. I too am a lefty so I feel your pain. That Epic 5 string looks nice and any Alembic used for $1000 or less is a deal. Send an email to the dealer and ask questions such as what is the sticker on the back (pictures are fuzzy)... I usually ask for a phone number so I can chat too, since it is a pawn shop, that should be no problem. Quite a few lefty Alembics per year show up on EBay, this club and other places, Be patient, there are lefty Alembics out there, remember to enjoy the journey too! Good luck. |

Thank you all for your helpful comments. I have sent a few questions to the seller , a pawn broker , who hopefully knows enough about instruments that he can respond with reasonable knowledge . The photos are fuzzy and I do have some concerns but I think I will take that risk and go for it unless the bid price skyrockets out of my price range. The seller has a high rating and how often does a lefty get a shot at an Alembic in nice shape for what may be sold a fantastic price.(keeping my fingers crossed) Thanks again. DJ |
