Maybe some of you are interested: there is a new band out there called Moonalice. Jack Casady is playing in this group. They have a fall tour in progress. The web site is a real hoot (www.moonaliceband.com). "Moonalice is a far flung tribe of musicians who all want to play bass." Check it out.

I'm going to see them at the Ram's Head in Annapolis, MD next month. You're right the web site is entertaining. The band also features Pete Sears & G.E. Smith...not too shabby, eh?

GE Smith wanted to be a bassist then accordian to the band site.I would have liked to see him in the days on SNL with a series 2 and that huge smile of his.Bless him and Gilda.

I'm a big fan of Jack's & would go see this band if they came near here for that reason alone.
The music on the site, though, left me cold. Kind of reminded me of that one-off Grunt release by the group called "One".60s Folk rock with no edge.

(for those too young to know, Grunt was the Airplane's own label, started when their first contract with RCA expired. besides Tuna & Airplane member releases, they also "sponsored" a few lesser know artists by releasing their work - most notably the Jack Bonus album.)

To my knowledge, Jack was not on the recordings that are on the web site. He joined them later.
I had the pleasure of seeing them this past Friday in Denver. I loved it. Mr.Casady was in fine form. While there were no bass solos, there were some surprises, indeed. Like a brand-new arrangement of "Somebody to Love" with G.E. Smith on vocals. It wasn't all "folk rock," as evidenced by "Messin' With the Kid" and some others with a decided R & B edge.

Not only did I see them that Friday in Denver, I opened up with my band Great American Taxi.

I got to hang with Jack a little bit, although he wasn't in the most outgoing mood, but I could tell they were all a little road worn. However, it was a cool experience and Pete, Barry and Jim (accordian, pedal steel and drums) all sat in with us and a good time was had by all!

Benson, too bad we didn't know we were both here on the forum, if you see Great American Taxi again, come say hi!

Edwin
My Series I is still in Santa Rosa awaiting a refinish, so I played my much modified Starfire which brought back some memories for Jack.

Edwin,

I really enjoyed your set! Great energy. (And I noticed your modded Starfire, too.) I would like to see Great American Taxi again. Do you have a web site?

www.greatamericantaxi.net! We're also on myspace. We're taking it pretty easy this fall after an absolutely killer summer.

Are you playing out at all around here?

Edwin,

I am in a band based out of Golden, CO called Local Disturbance, and another band whose (most recent) name is Fossil Fools. Anyway, I wrote you an email on the address listed by the Alembic club.
