Well, it's been over a month since I received my new custom 6-String Mark King Signature Deluxe Balance K... and I have to say I think I love it a little more every day. I ususally play it at least two hours a day, and continue to be floored by its stunning beauty, quality, comfort and feel, tremendous versatility, and overall design concept and execution... and of course, the sound. The attention to details both large and small is great, and makes for a tremendous instrument. The instrument was designed and built as a replacement for my beautiful old Elan which was stolen, and was built to replace the "hole in my sole" left by the loss; and it was built to not only replace it, but to blow it away. And it's succeeded. The bass is mind-bogglingly awesome. I have to say I'm just totally floored by and totally sold on the combination/package of the Balance K body AND Coco Bolo as a wood. The Balance K is absolutely the MOST COMFORTABLE and BEST-LOOKING bass (shape) I've EVER seen/played. Period. It's just so easy to play... there's nothing in the way of playing... of "getting out" the sounds I want to get out. The ergonomics, the balance... it's just awesome! And now that I have a Coco Bolo bass, and know from my own experience how great it sounds... add me to the list of Coco Bolo ravers! The sound is rich, complex, snappy, crisp, bright, clear, and full. Even without using the fancy electronics, it sounds completely awesome with the Q switches turned off and the EQ controls set flat; and when I use these controls... watch out! I'm so happy I paid the extra $ for Coco Bolo on both sides, and extra to have both sides BTCered -to maximize the Coco Bolo sound. Of course, (as we all likely know) I'm told the neck is the biggest factor in the sound, and I can sure hear the "oomph" in the sound from the single Ebony laminate in the neck -as well as the warmth from the Mahagony and Vermillion in the neck. It's just an incredible package, and I'm very grateful to Alembic for building me ANOTHER extremely awesome custom bass that "just won't quit." My only problem with it is that it's so awesome it's hard to put down, and my other half is frequently frustrated that she has to negotiate for my time and coerce me to put it down... but I can't blame Alembic for that, can I? To any/all considering a new custom Alembic, I have to give the highest recommendation to the Coco Bolo/Balance K combo (with at least one Ebony laminate in the neck -Mahogany lams also highly recommended!). It comes as no surprise how popular these models are... the Coco Bolo Balance K Signature Deluxes... beware! If you see and play one at a dealer... you may walk out with a big credit card bill! Thanks again, Alemibic, for this INCREDIBLE instrument! I'm indescribably grateful and appreciative each and every time I look at it, and play it. And now... time to get started playing for several hours! Bye! |

OK, ya did it again. Just as I was starting to regain my composure from looking at mine, I gotta see a new posting from you talking about how great your new one is. Now,for the 2nd time today, I'm all flustered with anticipation! I'm really glad you love the new beast as much as you do. You seem more excited about her now than you did when ya first got her! Are you starting to figure out her subtlties and personality traits? I'm sure she has plenty! Have a great weekend, Mark, and don't play all the licks off her neck in the first couple months :D I gotta go play my gig now.... BCoooooool, Mike, Tho |

After almost another month, I just want to say another time, "thanks Alembic"!!! This bass is utterly mind-boggling in every way. It's obvious why the Coco Bolo/Mahogany sandwich is Alembic's "house wood"; it has an awesome sound. And adding Ebony and Mahogany to the neck recipe is a winning combination and enhancement. And the Balance K body is incredibly comfortable and ergonomic. The electronics package -Signature electronics with upgraded 3-position Q switches and a single pair of bass & treble knobs makes for an incredibly versatile -yet simple- setup. I give this recipe/combo/package the highest possible recommendation!!! |
