Not sure if he's taking any of his Alembics on this tour.

When I saw 'em in D.C., he was playing this big, ungainly double-cut white bass most of the night. He and Lindsey both played Turner Renaissances on some songs. (I was in line at the bar and missed the first song! Anybody know what resophonic guitar Lindsey was playing on The Chain?)

If it looked like this it was a Rick Turner Model 1.

Thanks, Matt, but I was out in the hallway when they played the tune, and couldn't see the stage. Anyway, sonically it clearly was a resonator guitar of some kind. He played his Model Ones most of the night, switching to a Turner Renaissance and a Taylor for acoustic stuff. Any other guesses, anybody?

I read resophonic and totally didn't think resonator. haha

I think he used a National resonator on the album. Not sure if he is using it live or not.

I haven't seen any shots of the latest tour, but on the DVD from their first reunion tour ("The Dance") he was playing an old white Tobias for most of the show, switching to a Turner Renaissance for a couple of tunes.

I've also seen pictures of him playing a white Turner Electroline bass as well, although the one he had had two regular soapbar pickups instead of the more common diamond shaped pickup or piezo only (e.g., no magnetic pickup) Electroline configurations. The Electroline looks pretty weird (sort of like one of those 60's Teisco Del Rey guitars), so perhaps that's what you saw.

I will make no apologies, since Rick sold me my first Alembic, but I just got home from a "Fleetwood Mac" concert, and it was, honestly, embarassing. First of all Christine wasn't there, but if I had known what she probably knew, I wouldn't have been there either. It was the Lindsey Buckingham show, complete with an extra drummer, two extra guitar players, two extra vocalists, and some kind of a stand-in keyboard player. And poor Stevie - I dare not say anything more about her! Lindsey has apparently made everyone else get his favorite brand of guitar (which is fine if you're into one note guitar solos), although I saw the other two guitarists frequently switching to Fenders, Gibsons, and other instruments in the background when the lights went down. I am most sorry to report that John has made the above mentioned switch as well, and it is sadly apparent. Fleetwood Mac no longer has a bass that can hold down the music and move it forward. It really sounded like a bunch of tinny drivel. Christine sure must have earned her keep in the past, I mean, 1 keyboard player - who also played an acoustic 12 string, 2 extra guitarists, and 2 extra vocalists. It's really sad. At times, they sounded as despondent as most of the tunes on Pink Floyd's The Wall. As Peter Green would probably say, "Oh Well!"

DTK has now seen a phenomenon I've seen repeatedly on stages far and wide. See if any of you notice this as well in your visits to gigs:

Guy shows up with some sort of 'modern' bass (EMGs or Barts) by some well known builder (NOT Alembic) plugs into a now-typical sort of 10s plus horn rig . . . . and sounds like a clavinet!
No bottom to lock with the kick, no meat to hang the guitars and keys on, no center of gravity to make people dance. Then on the break he tells you how much he loves that old-school round sound 'like Jamerson'!

I saw FM pretty recently and it was not bad show at all. Im not a big fan myself, I went for my GF.

That being said, Im a bit suprised to see them get ripped this badly. I thought they sounded good, just as good as the last time I saw them.

I also did not hear anything wrong with the Renaisaance bass or LBs Model 1 either. Im kinda suprised to read such negative things about those instruments. Ive played Model 1s and I love them and I know a guy who owns a 5 string Renaissance that he swears by and he could own whatever he wants.

I like to see Alembics in use too, but that must have been a bad show because that is not representative of the show I saw, outside of Stevie who just doesnt sound too good anymore for some reason. LB was great I thought though. Im not a bass guy myself, but I thought John sounded good too. *shrug*
