Nice bass, Daymian, infact it is just like my bass...you can see it in the Showcase section in the Distillate folder. Mica told me that about 300 or so of these Distillates were made ( with just one pickup and the brass plate in the front) exclusively for the Japanese market; they all had zebrawood tops mahogany body & purpleheart/maple necks & 32 inch scale. The zebrawood selected for this batch was quartesawn, so it shows more action than a typical zebrawood top. Yours is a 1981 model judging from the serial number; seems like it was number 18 of that batch. The controls are fairly simple: volume, filter, q switch, and 2 position high and low boost switches.

Thanks so much Valentino. Everyone that has seen my bass has fallen in love with it. I would still like to know the original retail and a rough estimate of what one in excellent condition would go for now. Everything on the bass is ORIGINAL (except the strings of course :-) )it has NEVER been played on stage. I beat up on an Ibanez Roadstar (modified) on stage and since my dad gave it (Alembic) to me as a gift it just sits quietly in its case at home. I have used it in certain recording situations, about 5 sessions in all. If anyone else has any other info to add I would be grateful.

Daymian, that's so sad that bass has never been played on stage, that's like buying a Porsche and keeping in the garage and never driving it, you have not lived until you fill a big room with the sound of an Alembic!!!!!!

I'm inclined to agree with you David, it is a shame that she hasn't had a chance to be in front of a house full of appreciative spectators. But it was a gift from my dad and I wasn't doing a nice quiet jazz gig or anything...quite the opposite. That's why I've only used it in recording situations up till now. I can beat up on my Ibanez all I want with abandon....and I do. And the demands of a funk/rock show band are tough on an instrument. And in a recording situation...people tend to take you a little more seriously when your plugging your "bic" in for a session. :-)

Daymian
