Okay, some of you may think that Myspace is too trendy or just silly childs play, but there are those of us in the entertainment biz that use Myspace as a virtual business card and a free website. I like to advertise for the companies in which I use their gear in my top friends slots and would love to put Alembic at the top, but you dont have a Myspace page yet. Just wondering if you would consider putting something up so we can proudly display you on our pages. Thanks.

Interesting idea. However I could imagine like many sites on myspace, the number of friends generated by a page like Alembic, responding to add requests, comments, bulletins etc etc would become another labour intensive resource to manage, and impersonal.

I presume this current forum takes time to manage and administer. Things like responding to questions, problems, posting progress reports etc...etc all take time away from core business. So another one with a potentially larger membership could be even more time consuming.

But at least you put the point forward for consideration. Personally I like the fact that this forum is a focussed group of generally like minded individuals sharing knowledge, experience friendship... and a healthy dose of sarcasm and wit. :-)

Myspace would be a whole new ball game.
I guess you could always start one and call it Alembic or unofficial alembic fan site and get that ball rolling.

My 2p.

Well, true, I could, but I would rather that ball be in Alembic's court. Sure it does add to the workload, but Myspace has turned out to be a great investment of my time. True, it is more driven by teens who are tired of cell phones, but there is a great market for musicians out there who are using Myspace to capitalize on an otherwise suffering music market and advertising through endorsement, whether paid or not, is always a good thing for any business. In other words, I think it would be time well spent.

A different perspective. Alembic doesn't do business in volume. That's why the quality and cost of their instruments is so high, relatively speaking.

So in essence(pardon the pun), they really don't need unlimited advertising. I don't think they are trying to grow the business...and god bless 'em for it. I much prefer dealing with Mica or Susan, as opposed to a gargantuan, soul-less corporate entity.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it...(IMHO)...

I dont think anyone has Alembic Instruments. I can see your point pas, however, just as I said earlier, I like to advertise on my page the products I use and would love to have Alembic as one of my top friends. I guess I will have to come up with an Alembic Owners myspace page or something. Im not that good at putting these pages together, though, so if someone else has more experience, I would prefer they do it.

Advertising aside, I think that a little more AWARENESS never hurt. Alembic is for everyone, not just the "chosen few" (or something like that); so even if it's just for appreciation sake it would be cool to have a myspace page, I'd friend it and have it be top friends. Hey, and if it does generate a little extra business, that never hurt either ; )

I agree with 81distillate, but I understand the Alembic policy.
They never used (and needed) any advertising or big display of their products, and that's the reason why the factory still works like 30 years ago.
I mean, big exposure means big demand and big demand means bigger production.
Look what happened to Warwick: they started as the European Alembic and now they have basses made in China.
I don't want this to happen to Alembic.

Anyway, I though about making an unofficial Alembic mySpace page, but I'm sure it will take lot of time and I'm not an Alembic expert (even I could take all the information from the official site after asking the authorization to the owners).
Maybe I'll do it one of these days, and you'll be the ones who will know it.

Eugene; why not create an Alembic Group instead of a Profile on MySpace. This would allow members to upload pictures of their instruments; this Alembic forum is optimized for discussion and not for image sharing.

I am not disagreeing with your idea Eugene. I just want to get some feedback (this is a sentence I never thought would exit my mouth) about what people in this Forum feel would satisfy their desire to disclose their addiction to Alembic instruments on MicePace. I look to this forum for Alembic specific discussions and I would not want to dilute the focus toward this forum for discussion.

I allude to my instrument addiction via my avatar on MicePace.

I'm not sure I undertood correctly: are you suggesting to create a mySpace Alembic group (instead of an officiale Alembic page) where friends can show their instruments?

Well, it's not a bad idea and I'm really excited about that, but I think it may take a lot of time to be updated everytime a friend mail me a picture (I don't want to put the bass/guitar pictures in the comment section, al least not just there).
I think a can create several photo albums for guitar, bass, live and whatelse comes to mind.

Ok, just give me some time to think about it and I'll let you know if I can make it.

Anyway, it's better if the official Alembic mySpace page is made by the right person.

For what it's worth, I'll probably never go onto myspace.I do my internetery during my breaks at work (where myspace, youtube etc are banned) and home time is reserved for more productive activities - such as playing my Alembics ;-)

I would suggest that if someone (official or otherwise) does set up a myspace page, do a myspace music page. That way mp3s can be posted, and it kind of distinguishes it from the billions of high school student pages.

Here's the url: myspace artist signup

There are a few manufacturers that do this: Zon and Eden to name a few. They post mp3s of endorsees and other musicians kind of demonstrating their gear.

That was what I was thinking of.

Just give me some time to organize the work.
I just got some new projects to work on (I got a web agency) so I can't do the mySpace page right now, but I want to do it.
I hope it won't be a problem if I take some pictures from the Alembic web site and use them for the mySpace page.

Now I go to sleep.

Good night.

Eugene; off the top of my head, my guess would be that you would want to get permission before using a picture.

Please lets not be snooty about the idea. Though some of you dont care anything about myspace, there is a generation, or two, out there that hasnt heard about Alembic. And though some of you would like to keep this a small, eclectic group of collector's who CAN afford these instruments, I would prefer to think there are some hard working professional musicians out there that would save or borrow the dough to get such a quality instrument that can do anything and sound like anything! Sorry, but that whole snobbery business went out with Abe Lincoln in 1865, weve evolved since then, why dont you join us!

I agree with 81distillate.
I mean, we are talking about a page made by (Alembic) fans, or owners if you prefer, for (Alembic and other basses) fans.
We don't want to change the Alembic policy, we are just talking about a tribute to (whose we thing are) the best instruments on Earth.
It's a private enterprise.
Then, if we get the support from Alembic it should be great, but it's not essential.
You can find tons of mySpace pages made by fans without legit owner's permission or knowledge.
I feel proud (and lucky) in having an Alembic bass, I find no reason to keep it a secret.

The My Space page can be set up to automatically allow friends to be added without the owner of the page approving them. You can also set it up so that comments and emails are not allowed. This way, there is no administration needed.
