Hi, Anybody know the current street value of a 86 Spoiler in decent/fair condition would be? There is one down the street in a music store that I kind of like. It has a black finish on it, so I can't tell much about the woods. It plays and sounds realy good and I kind of want a 4-string bass I can kick around with (I have 2 6-string basses). I owned a spoiler once before and really liked it, but I had to let it go to afford my 6-strings about 10 years ago. Thanks, Earl Posted on Sunday, August 10, 2003 - 4:16 pm: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello Mica, This Spoiler is in a local music shop down the street from me (Encinitas, CA). I was wondering if you may have any info on this bass? I was curious what you estimate it's street value is? This guy marks everything up by 30-50% because he's right on Hwy 101 near the beach (high rent). I'm thinking it's probally worth about $700-1000. He's asking $1800. IT's in relativly good shape, just needs some TLC. I like the bass so I think I'm going to try and deal with him, but I wanted to try and get some heads up on what I'm dealing with. Thanks, Earl

Generally, used Spoilers sell for $800-$1000. If they have exotic woods and/or are in especially pristine condition, they might sell for more. However, in this case, where the guitar is black instead of natural wood, and it needs some TLC, I wouldn't pay more than $700 for it. $1800 is way, way, way overpriced. (I paid less than that for my used Series I.) If you're looking for a Spoiler, they pop up now and again on Ebay. Also, I think there is one just listed on Harmony Central or Bassgear (I forget which) for $1250, which is still high but certainly less than $1800. |

Thanks for the feedback kipknee. I was thinking of offering him $700 for it. Like I said before, he marks everything up because he's near the beach and I'm sure his rent is high. No excuse I think though, musicians should treat each other with professional respect and not try to rip each other off. I feel sorry for the young guys who don't know any better. I'll offer him $700 cash and see if he wants to play. Earl
