I just picked up this guy last week. Can you say bobby guitar? A Casio PG-380 with an 89 Modulus neck, (which I guess strangely enough, happened to be owned by Brad Whitford of aerosmith.) Anyway, the onboard midi is quite possibly the most fun I've had in my entire life. There are 64 sounds built into the guitar, plus it comes with 2 sound cards with over 100 other instruments per card. I need to get the capacitors replaced however, as the sensitivty of some of the strings on the midi has dampend with time. I would love to get some Alembic pickups to throw in there, maybe a low pass filter too and make this thing the ultimate musical creation station. I sold one of those recently,caps needed replacing too...I guess that's a common thing for the aging casio's. I love the sounds you can get with midi access guitars. You can make sounds that you wouldn't be able to with a keyboard...nice find! | ||

I used to have one of those guitars but without the onboard midi sounds. It was basically a guitar with the midi output that you could plug into an external model. I stopped using it live because the pickups were quite susceptible to external noise and the tracking delay annoyed the hell out if me. I eventually traded it in for a decent USA strat but before that I used it primarily for sequencing. If your use is primarily for midi you may want to try the tip I had for using it. Since you can use different tuning for the guitar and midi, I used all single gauge 10 gauge E-strings for all 6 strings which gave me a much better tracking speed. It resulted in less quantisation in the sequencer when playing chords because on a standard guitar set the higher notes tracked faster than the lower notes and hence appeared at different times in the sequencer. It does take some getting used to but it makes playing much easier and lighter. All the best with it. Jazzyvee |
