Yes Alembic still builds the Epic. As a matter of fact you can still order pretty much any Alembic body style that has come out. It is just a matter asking when you request a quote or order an instrument. Here is the link to the Epic product page. Keith | ||

Hi Friends, just got my first Alembic (still awaiting arival from Ebay Seller) its a 98 Epic 5 string that I got for $1200. I own a Pedulla PentaBuzz Fretless 5string and Modulus Flea 4string. What should i expect, where do I find a case for the bass and are DR Marcus Miller OK strings for the bass. P.S. Are all the Epic 34" or ??? THANKS! | ||

Probably all Epics are 34" scale. I once had a problem with d'Addarrio SlowWounds in long scale: the A string was too short to even reach the tuner (you need certainly 2" of surplus length). From what I remember, the "normal" DR HiBeams and LoRiders had plenty of length. So lay out the strings on the bass to check the length, before actually putting them on - so you can return the strings to the store if they're too short. The case might be a bit of a problem, because the bottom shape sticks out a lot more than it does on a Jazz Bass. Enjoy that bass! | ||

Almir - DR Marcus Miller strings are very good for an Epic. I'm speaking from experience here - these are the strings I used on a borrowed Epic 4 to record one song on my band's debut album. They did great (I put Rotosounds on the Essence 5 I used for most of the songs and, much as I like them, they felt too stiff). Congrats on your newly acquired Alembic! :-) | ||

An SKB hardshell case (for Fender style) from Guitar Center will hold the Epic, I got one with my fretted Epic back a few years ago. And DR Hi-Beam strings for 34' (long) scale are what I use on my fretted Epic also | ||

Welcome to the club Ayab and Almir! Epic basses are really fantastic and can make your day each and every gig without causing undue stress by fear of damage or dismay such as a top-end expensive boutique bass might. Any good quality long scale string should work, but to be sure, measure all the strings before tensioning. You can always bring back a new set of strings to swap for a new set of strings, but as soon as it is tensioned, it is non-returnable unless it is "dead" straight from the package - another issue entirely. To tell the scale length, measure from the inside edge of the nut (fretboard side) to the twelvth fret and double the measurement: A 34" scale will measure 17", a 35" scale will measure 17 1/2". I use the Alembic string on my fretless 5 with great success - a pressure-wound round wound nickel string that feels smooth to the touch and fingerboard, and sounds delightfully full. As for cases, go to a music store with your Epic, and try the fit of cases in stock. Be prepared to prove ownership at the door first! You don't want to walk in the store with your bass and not be able to walk out with it! I got a Coffin case which was slimmer than an SKB - if portability is a concern, and the looks are real Goth too! Under $100.00 USD too.
