I listed my series I on ebay, (also up in the for sale section) People have been asking me the full serial number. Now I know with some guitars, I give partial serial numbers, so there is no chance of anybody using the SN on a fake guitar, or registering it falsely. However, when I was shopping around for Alembics, I would frequently ask the serial number, just to verify it with the guys in Santa Rosa, and people seemed happy to provide it for me. Others however, were more hesitant. Would it be safe to provide a curious ebayer with the SN for the same purpose, of verifying the authenticity of the guitar, or would it be a potential risk, that I should politely avoid? I figured you guys would be the ones to ask!! |

Hi Sam, Since you currently own the instrument, I feel (personal opinion) publishing my serial numbers here acts as an "off-site proof" of my property/ ownership. Look how many instruments are listed in the Showcase by serial number. Scammers usually seem to need pictures to set up false sales. Having knowledge of a real serial number does an evildoer little good. Mike |
