My F-2B preamp is over 21 years old and, though it works fine, I really think I need to change the electrolytics.

It has these electrolytic caps:

35uf 450V (4 of them)
50uf 16V (2 of them)
50uf 25V 105c (2 of them)

I can't find any 35uf 450V caps to replace them with. I have found some 40uf 450V Sprague Atoms that I think should do fine, but I wanted to get your opinions/advice.

I did find some 50uf 25V 105c Sprague caps (an exact match for 2 of those listed above), but I was wondering if it would be ok to also use these in place of the 50uf 16V caps listed above (those didn't have 105c written on them so I'm guessing they're just standard 85c temp rating).

Thanks for any advice regarding this,
Gus

Gus,

The caps you mention should all be fine. Just check if they physically fit into where they have to go.

Cheers,

Thanks for the reply, Peter!

Yes they will all fit fine. The 40uf/450V caps are actually a bit shorter than the original 35uf/450V's and might even go in without lengthening the leads (the leads on the originals had to be lengthened).

Also, the support foam (under the caps and in the top cover) is deteriorating (as Mica once told me it tends to do over many years), so I will replace that as well.

Thanks Again!
-Gus
