Hi Guys, you may now think: Custom Tribute Burl Maple 5 string? I have heard about this already! YES! This is the bass that once was ordered from Flax and was not accepted by him due to a miscommunication about the neck shape. Well, I was thinking about this bass already in March as I was looking for a 5string bass for my new band (www.martigan.com). So now today I paid a deposit for this bass. Might take a few months for me to pay the bass off but then I will have another gorgeous and unique Alembic besides Tears for John. I was heavily thinking about other 5 stringers but ended up coming to the homebase, the mothership. Here is my new baby, photo courtesy of BC: As I cannot be with you guys at the Chicago meeting I needed to compensate my frustration....... :-) Oliver(Spyderman) |

Congratulations Oliver! This bass will have a good musical home with you. As nice as it looks in the picture, as usual it is far better in person. Susan |

Susan, thank you so much for your kind words! I will be happy to play this bass with my new band as I play Tears for John with my WHO band. I have sent Mica a mail today rgdg the electronic layout on the Tribute as I am a bit confused on what is the right layout (it is left uncleared in the original thread). Thank you! Oliver: I can second Susan's description as I regularly visited Alembic and reported on its progress to Flax while it was being built. The wood on this bass is nothing short of breathtaking. You're going to have quite the dilemma picking between this one and Tears for John. Maybe you should start trying to learn how to play both at the same time (is that what they mean by "double bass"?).Here's a link to the original FTC thread on this instrument. Congrats! Bill, tgo |

nice bass..like the wood covered pu's..sort of in touch with the earth if you see what I mean. Strange to see Tribute shape on a bass when we are so used to the classic alembic large and small body shapes but very tasty non the less. Congrats on your purchase. Play her as she is meant to be played, with commitment, devotion and soul. |

Did the guy who commissioned this bass have a replacement made of the same design with a corrected neck profile or is this still the only tribute bass? jazzyvee |

I'm quite surprised to see you get this one Oliver. I would see this often and think "who the hell would buy this". It's just "too custom" but, I'm sure you will put it to good use and enjoy it very much. It is an absolutely gorgeous bass, so get down and make some great music with her!! |

Jazzy.. Jeff had scarlet built after he found scooter didn't fit. Graeme p.s. Phil Lesh had an Irwin built tribute bass (although obviously not called a tribute) long before either of these alembics were conceived. |

Guys, Speicky, Adam, thanks so much for your nice comments. I was thinking about this bass since March. It is also something completely new for me with my new second band Martigan. Not JE style as with my WHO band, but more conventional bass playing, but very complex and on a very high level. I did most of the rehearsals with Martigan yet with my 4strings, TFJ and the Status but I noticed that for that kind of music I need a 5string as well as the normal 34 scale is a bit too much for me. Strange to explain, I have no probs with TFJ with my WHO band, no I feel very comfortable with him. But with Martigan it is a completely different one. Imagine doing unisono speed riffs with the guitarist on the lower registers over 5 frets. So I hope that the Tribute will make my life easier... And yes, of course it is very heavy customised but as already said I looked and looked with all the other basses around but nothing didnīt appeal me that much. I need to have something spectacular opticalwise too..... :-) If you want to hear what we are doing with Martigan plse take a look at our website www.martigan.com, then choose on the start site the VISION link and you will be directed directly to our new CD VISION with some mp3 excerpts. Oh BTW, anyone interested in a Status B2? Oliver (Spyderman) |

Nice one Oliver. I've been watching that one for a while for sale at BC. It's a good thing I'm broke and cannot play a five string. ENJOY IT |
