Mica/Val

I've just been to the Bass Centre in London and seen a beautiful bass similar to the one I'm considering;unfortunately it had already been sold. Insofar as I could tell, it was a Mark King Signature Standard Triple Omega in walnut; serial number was 03MJ13155. It was unusual in that it seemed to have normal signature electronics, but possessed a hum canceller in the middle. Previously you've suggested that the hum canceller isn't available as a "cosmetic only" option, but this bass seems to refute that. The problem is its confirmed that the bass I want MUST have, as I always thought, a " cosmetic only" humcanceller (I actually prefer the signature electronics to the Series, which I find too confusing - sorry!- and which I can't afford anyway). I did make enquiries about having something similar done, but was told I would have to have a Series 1! What is happening? It didn't seem to have prepped Series 1/2 electronics either. Could you clarify please?

The cosmetic humx is something I've been discouraging and we've been trying to wean ourselves from doing, but in a moment of weakness, my mother agreed to put it on that bass. Actually, it's a real humx pickup ready to hookup someday if needed. So mom says it's okay if you want it on your bass.

Here's a pic of the bass in question:

03MJ13155

Here's some history on "dummy" humx pickups:
We made 30 special Stanley Clarke models for Japan many years ago with a dummy humx and it has caused TONS of confusion with used basses in their market. Unsuspecting buyers think they are getting a Series I/II because of the humx, and get sorely disappointed when they discover that's not what they have. After this, we have tried discontinuing that option, but you guys keep asking us so nicely we can't resist!

Hi Mica
Thanks so much for the info, and for the ok regarding the humx (and thanks to your mom, that really made my day!). I just think it looks so cool, so "right" for an Alembic (maybe I'm just showing my age!).Could you let me know how much the humx is including fitting, just so I can start working out costs.

All the best

Mica,

Just don't let 'em talk you into a dummy 5-pin. I can see the posts now......"I won it on eBay, but when I plugged it in, I didn't get ANY sound at all."

Peace,

Oh yeah, you should. Even add dummy side LED's and dummy knobs. Then in the far future, someone will win that bass on Ebay or Pawn shop. He'll come home with his new pride and joy, plug it in, wil be twistin and turning for a couple days.....
Finally, he will turn to the Alembic Club, and we will be here waiting for him (or her) and tell him it's all a big joke ; )
mmmm

You guys crack me up! How about a "macassar ebony" top that actually IS made of toffee (instead of just looking like it)... ok ok, seriously Mica, could you let me know how much for the humx, I'll e-mail separately if that's easier. I think I may have started something here...

Mica
I've just spoken to James at the Bass Centre in London and he's given me a full quote for my bass including the humx (No doubt you're already aware of this). I'll hopefully be sorting something out asap.

Many Thanks

Shaun
