Any playing the Hartke Hydrive Speakers?

I used to like the sound of the aluminium cone speakers with a fretless/passive bass but I hated the tone when I switched to active/fretted bass.

I never liked those aluminium speakers or any system with tweeters I can't atenuate. That top end always sounds harsh to me, specially with an Alembic. My personal favorite always were large cone speakers like the 1x15", but recently I bought a Epifani 2x10" and it totally changed my mind.

Some of these new neodimiun Cabs are amazing in their sensibility ("loudness"), power handling and frequency response. Mine beats easely any Ampeg 8x10" in all those aspects (plus in weight/portability, of corse). I can't say it has a total flat response, but cuting some high drive makes it very distint in the mids and very pleasant in its overall response (never harsh or dull).

May be they're more expensive than the Hartke, but worth each cent. You should try someday...

Mario, I totally agree with you. I used to play with a Bag End 1x15. I have switched to a Warwick 4/10 and an Aguilar 1/12. I have found the frequency response to be MUCH better, and the atenuaters give me alot of flexability in whatever room I'm in at the time.
As far as getting you some recordings I am slotted for the studio next week and will post some of it as soon as I can. I have alot of work on my hands right now with three bands and a couple of weddings coming up. But soon, buddy. How's the Jobim thing working out?

I had a Hartke amp and cab for a short time and didn't like it at all. Since then I have stayed away. I have used Gallien Krueger and Eden and have been very happy. I also like EBS but they are hard to find.

I've been using a Hartke 7000 head and 4x10 box(no horn) for 10 years with an S11 and an Essence and find it great,I also have a H & H 15" combo with a JBL 2225 and a A.E.R Amp One

I REALLY liked their 4-10 box that had the 5" driver in the middle, thought it was smoother with a small speaker instead of a horn.

Then I found out they could only be re-coned at their Jersey plant, and that gave me the excuse to go with my gut instinct to not buy one anyway.

It's interesting that V Wooten is endorsing them after a long relationship with Ampeg. Understandable after Ampeg changed hands after a few years back, but I would not have predicted he'd end up at Hartke. Endorsement deals are always confusing to me anyway.

Epifani is interesting as I'm going to be very interested to see what they market as the new Anthony Jackson cabinet, if it ever comes to market. AJ has VERY serious ears and has used an array of amps/cabinets over the years at least as esoteric as the progression of his signature Foderas. Was using Meyer (!) cabinets the last I read.

Mario, did you audition one of those Epifani powered single 12 cabinets? I've always wanted to try one out. The idea of something like that with only an F1x or Demeter preamp always tempts me as a really nice SMALL rig.

Sorry, Joey "Bigredbass", in Brazil is very dificult to find good gears. So I simply bought the only one I've could found/afford at the time (we pay at least 4 times more on any imported gear here than we should pay if we lived on US). I found it on a second hand store being sold by a former endorser they had here together with just a second 2x10".

Now they are being sold more regularly on just one big store, but I didn't had the chance/budget/idea to try one new cab after purchasing that 2x10".
