This is a period, when Clarke and Duke were paying homage and respect to Gorge Clinton's 70's P-Funk sound.

What a great honor to George Clinton, and Bootsy sound.

However some "Funk Puritans" was not too happy with it.

Back in the day, I heard people say, Stanley is trying hard to capture Bootsy's audience, and George Duke tried to do it before with Dukie Stick with mimicing Bootsy's stage voicing and phasing.

"Dukie Stick" was a Boosty Funk-like dance sound... Bootsy was known for terms like: "Ahh" this and "Ahh" that. George Duke did use some of this lazy-haziness phasing in his music like Bootsy. Honestly when I first heard "Dukie Stick" I thought it was Bootsy's jam... "He could had fooled me..."

What I believe is both Stanley/Duke is about all music. There's nothing taboo about Stanley/Duke jamming the funk. Bootsy was probably kicking back, smokin a "J" with his wonderful smile from "ear to ear" listening to Stanley's phasing and "SPACE-BASS" sounds.

Besides, everybody knows... there's only room for one George and Bootsy... I am sure Stanley and Duke knows it too.

It's all about their love for the Funk... I SAY: FUNK-ON!

The guys in the Screaming Headless Torsos were a big influence on me back in the late 80s and early 90s. Fima Ephron and Gene Lake (son of Oliver Lake, one of my alltime favorites. Shockra covered Tone Clone like it was our own.) were a hell of a rhythm section and the rest of the band doesn't suck. Check out the Leon Thomas style yodeling!

If I had managed to be playing more in bands like this in the last 15 years I might not be starting law school this week. No regrets, though.
