Any help would be appreciated. My E-string buzzes on my 5-string Spoiler. I have it strung E-B. I need to adjust the saddle. Any suggestions here? Do I need a special tool? | ||

Where is it buzzing? Is it on the open E? Frets 1-5, further up the neck? A good place to start is Joey's setup post in the FAQ section... it is VERY thorough and is all you need to get things dialed in the way you like. | ||

You can raise the height of the bridge on the side that's buzzing. But since you've change the gauge of the string from the original, and over time, the brass has likely worn anyway, making the smaller string even worse off in the saddle. You can call us and order a new saddle(s) that you slot to the right height and gauge of strings you are using now. | ||

Mica, why don't I just go back to the original strings? Shouldn't be a problem. Which ones do you recommend? | ||

I can take an educated guess as to what strings were on the bass originally. Your profile says it's a 1987, so they were probably Kaman. Like I said, the brass will wear depending on time and the techniques in playing, so even if you put the original strings on it, if the bass is 20 years old, you'll have to deal with it in the condition it's in now, with fret wear, saddle wear etc. If you want to play the bass tuned from E instead of B, you should, just make the needed adjustments and enjoy. |
