Too bad Dethklok's Skwisgar Skwigelf is a Gibson endorser. Alembic could certainly build something more out there than his plain ol'Goth Explorer and this proves it.

More proof that the Mothership can build anything, no matter how crazy the design, and do it with style.

Tenacious D rules. I recommend checking out the live concert DVD from around 2003...Kyle Gass is a pretty technically proficient guitarist and Jack Black, who has obviously become much more famous since the TD halcion days of the '90's and early '00's, is an incredible frontman with good vocal range.

Suggested tracks: "Wonder Boy" and "Tribute"

And, I believe that the positioning of the TD guys with the neck of the guitar and the shape of the headstock is meant to possibly represent (ahem...) "potency". Am I right about this, mothership?

Oh, and hifiguy, I'm catching Dethklok in concert (opening for Mastodon) in Tulsa next month. Although, I'm not sure if there will be actual flesh-and-blood guys on the stage or perhaps a cartoon concert? Should be interesting at any rate.

i saw deathklok last year and it was just the drummer and a guitar player/singer.. or there might have been another guy singing.. dont really remember. either way, if you listen to the music on the show it's just guitar and drums with some octave effect thrown in. fun show, though.

They did have a full band with Mike Kineally on the first tour. Also from time to time he uses fill in musicians from the School of Rock.

Re: Dethklok

AFAIK, the live 'klok is Brandon (who wrote all the music for the show_ on guitar, Mike Kenneally on guitar drummer Gene Hoglan (ex Strapping Young Lad, who also plays on the show's soundtrack/CDs) on drums. Bryan Beller on bass.

They had the right company build this one, but they made a mistake using that plastic mold. Susan could have designed something far out, but also beautiful. C'mon, no dragon on the love giver!?

Yeah I'm sure she could have done something far out, but I think that would have added shed loads to the price which I presume would have taken the project outside their client's spec and budget. Just look how much a dragon fretboard inlay costs and imagine scaling something like that onto a full body.

It seems that this year the "Custom of the Month" has been the "Custom of the Months" with only three receiving the honor so far in 2009. I predict "The Love Giver" will signal a return to the one-month reign. Brutal indeed!

Mica has alrady had something to say on the subject of COTM.

The love giver is certainly an interesting guitar. I'm not sure I'd want to be in a band where something as extreme as that was neccessary ;-)

Great build! I am a big D fan for a long time (since their HBO days). Do you think this guitar will get any action, being played anywhere and captured on film sometime? I hope so.

Nice work!

My all time favorites include all of David Grego's and Valentino V's Basses and the legendary John Judge.
This one (and I say this for the first time ever), doesn't do it for me. It's like Rolls Royce's attempt at making a Japanese-style tuner car. A plastic top on an Alembic? I never thought I'd see the day.

One of the keys which unlocks the many mysteries of life related to the true art forms of making quality instruments in my view, are becoming endangered by the visionaries of virtual gaming.

Clearly, it don't take a rocket scientist to see where the commercial markets are leading the herded-masses of gamers and our potentially gifted young musicians entering the mediocre limits of a simulated computer program.

With insight of these trends, there's a underline culture which maintains the 6 string electric guitar as "THEE" primary instrument, and drums as a close second. Now, where does this puts the bass?

Exactly, nowhere.

I am totally convinced, for as many guitar sounds and songs, in Soul and Funk genre, there's countless bass lines that should be recognized for generations to come. The bass is a dynamic fingering, strumming, and serves as a powerful and tactical tempo percussion instrument. Nothing can compare to a electric bass holding a groove in a song or instrumental compilation(s) in many areas, Not even 6 string highly over-driven guitar can dominate the bass domain. The bass is clearly it's own force and of its own invisible forces in creating music. Unfortunately, not much attention is given to the details of basses and the artist tactics thereof, for their skills go totally unrecognized and completely over shadowed by these so-called guitar entertainment virtual software engines. Therefore, as a means of survival (like other urban art forms), and if a virtual basses is not to be recognized to mass media, it will simply go underground until it becomes a cash cow.

Who makes these decisions anyway? My guess it just a hand full of investors and market researchers who lacks credential, and dynamism of the electric bass instrument. To put it firmly, the games lack the Funk, and the physical forms of playing the bass which I am sure, would be a very enjoyable experience for patrons, but these market segments are completely ignored and probably not even validated and studied as a group. What scam. Why should only guitars get the appeal? What is the underline message here? Basses are not important enough?

From a aerobics exercises perspective, the bass in many ways, provides a better workout than simply picking, pressing a note on a typical electric guitar finger board or keyboard. The bass becomes a whole different animal when you convert your hands from fingers, to slapping, thumbing, popping and strumming.

Maybe we need to take a stand, to make sure the dynamic forms of bass playing are not under, or overlooked due to a push of virtual musical expediencies. I believe the bass is being push to the back again.

How long will it take before we would see a bass hero slamming or even a interactive bass gaming systems?

Ain't a dam thing changed!
Maybe I should pitch this to China!

I can see it now... "FUNKSTAR, Presents..."!

While some see a problem, I see the opportunity.
Some people "CAN" handle the truth!

I'll be impressed when I see a virtual Alembic bass used as a musical weapon, kicking some virtual Alien's ass!

Peace,

Hal-

Hi Toma Hawk,

I just wanted to let you know that the "Guitar Hero" game does have the ability to play the bass simulator as well as the guitar. Also, the new Beatles Rock Band has the bass included. I had never played these games before this past weekend, when my son's friend brought over Guitar Hero III and his little plastic guitars. I was happy to see that I could choose to use the bass to try it out. But after playing Foghat's "Slow Ride" once (and doing OK score-wise) I picked up my real bass and had much more fun with that! But the kids love the game and I can see that it can actually help them with timing in real playing.

Note, this is not the first Alembic instrument with a plastic top. It's the second. The first one is a Spoiler in Norway with a laminate of pearloid across the entire face of the bass.

They can't all be medium scale Series I Standard Point basses in Bird's-eye Maple (my personal favorite)!

Do you know if Chic's jam "Good Times" bass riffs included?

Those are fun starters.

If not, much work should be done... I am going to make a plea to the developers and see if I could help in this regards.

What you need to do for pictures, build files, etc., is hire a company archivist, Mica. I happen to know where you could find one who's out of work.....

Hal, This weekend during my time of travail watching the Bears learn how to play football miserably for 3 hours, I noticed several ads for the next big gaming addition to music: "DJ Hero" I mean, what happened to "Keyboard Hero" or "Sax Hero" or even "Vocorder Hero"? (I think I just threw up a little in my mouth)

Does anyone else remember Woody Allen as a cellist in a school marching band? :-)

I concur.

Boosty's Star bass represents Funk like nothing I ever seen. Bootsy's bass is "King" of all Funk basses period. I was only a child in the 6th grade jamming "Stretching Out". He was outrageous back in the daze, and he's still Bootsy now. I am so inspired by such an idea of Bootsy having his bass design/name licensed to make something that helps children recognize the importance of all music, including the Funk. I believe I seen a Gene Simmons Bass for a game system. WHY NOT HAVE A FUNK GAME SYSTEM. "What CERTIFIED, VERIFIED RETARDS, those game makers ARE, for leaving out a 40 billion dollar industry"!!!

Bootsy came from two solid bands of Funk... James Brown, and George Clinton, then if that was not enough, he leaves those bands, takes risks and came back with his bass called: The Space Bass.

I remember as a child, I was amazed by Bootsy's timing and pacing. I must had burned holes, staring at pictures of his space original Space Bass concept. It was like looking at my favorite comic super hero, but with music. The 70's music, was the best ever!

#12, this is not a question for me to own, make or start a business because I can't buy a product at a store.

I like organic milk, and if the particular store didn't carry my milk, this does not mean I have to raise my own organically raised cattle, or cow to be satisfied for a glass (1 glass) of milk?

Its much easier, simpler and a whole lot cheaper to speak to those who have authority for making adjustments to satisfy others and myself as customers. In fact, I support business who listens to reasoning, and those who respect ideas enough to make changes if those ideas are valid and does more good, than harm.

If the store authorities refuse to stock the kind of milk I can only drink, I'll locate a store supporting my market needs.

I am sure I would have your support #12 moving forward if you think it would be great for kids to have a variety of options. I believe Jazz and the classics should be added too if the market will support this.

Hal, there won't be a bass hero untill they do a WHO version of guitar hero, although a 'kings of funk' edition would be a really cool thing to do...whenever I deal with people thinking about playing bass, I mention that they are in demand and how much fun bass is...I play both, but I think of myself as bass player first these days...anybody playing an actual instrument is to be encouraged these days and those that play realize eventually how important real bassists are....Tony
