I've owned my Series I for many years but I've never had the chance to play a SC. My bass is a 34" scale and it fit the 6'7" guy who I bought it from but it's a little rough for my 5'8" frame so I'm considering something smaller like a SC or short scale Series I. - I've looked around these boards and have tried to read up on SC impressions. If anyone remembers any good ones please point me twords them. - For those of you who have been able to own/play a Series I and an SC what are your impressions on the differences in the two? - Electronics differences (I noticed no dummy hum on the SC)? - How is the balance of an SC? I know it depends on wood choice but my Series I balances very well when seated and is just a little top heavy when standing. - Any other impressions/info would be greatly appreciated. | ||

I knew I'ld forget something ;) - Neck shape. I LOVE the way my Series I neck is carved. Is the neck contour of a SC the same/close? | ||

I have not owned any other Alembics but I have a SC Deluxe that I recently bought. At first the balance was an issue. Body materials will not be enough to counter the neck weight and the fact that the body is so small the distance between the ends of the strap is very close compared to a bass with larger body. This is a condition that some have found they cannot live with. I was not sure if I could but have made adjustments in the way I play it. My left arm is going through some adjusting as well because I have to position my arm higher but the muscles will learn and all will be fine. The biggest help I have found toward making the adjustment is in the strap. Find someplace to buy a "Comfort Strap". It is fairly wide but is unique in that is has some elastic in it and has 1/4" neopreme layer. this strap is very comfortable and does help with the transision to a SC. The strap comes in two sizes, short and long. There is little adjustment available so get the right one. If you are thin get the short strap. The SC has to be played high on the body. The short strap positions it perfectly. If you wear say a coat size 44 and up you probably should get the long strap or you might choke to death! You have to use strap locks with the SC so be sure to pick those up as well. I love my SC now that I have learned how to play it comfortably. |
