I picked-up an Orion 4 string today. It's REALLY nasty, so it is completely disassembled and getting a good scrubbing at the moment. I hope to get it put back together tomorrow so that I can post some pics. It has a really nice bird's eye maple top, but there is a large area where the finish is worn down to the wood. I don't know if it would be cost-effective to consider a refinish or not... probably not. I guess it can be my Alembic "Beater Bass". I'd been wanting to try a set-neck Alembic to see if it would give me a little more "punch" than my others, so we will see.

Hi Mike, That must be the one I saw on the Knoxville craigslist today. I noticed the worn out area but the pictures didn't tell much. It was a good deal even so and I figured it wouldn't last long. Congratulations and Play it Healthy! Art

That was it Art. I just happened to check CL a few minutes after he posted it. Turned out he had it at work (about 10 min from my house), so I had it at home within a few hrs. I figured, for the money, there was no way to go wrong with this one. It does have some miles on it though.

That's okay though... you know Alembics can take the mileage. Glad that it worked out well. Again, congrats!

That's long overdue then... Adam's a great guy and he does get to play with Zoso nearby every so often, it's a don't miss it show!

It cleaned-up better than I thought it would. I also learned a lesson about taking apart the bridge and reassembling it: I put it together upside down and had started restringing it before I realized my mistake!!! Oh well, I'll know better next time.

I really like the bass. The long upper horn makes it hang very comfortably and the first position is an easy reach. It doesn't have the tonal palette of some of the other electronic packages, but I never do much tweaking from the bass anyway. This is an instrument I wouldn't be afraid to take out of the house, but it would still get looks of envy. I'll post some pics at the "Showcase".

I'm a big fan of the Alembic set neck sound. My Epic is.... well.... Epic. Congrats on your new bass, I would hardly call it a
'beater" though.
