Graeme,
I have two of those straps. They are made by Ed and Fred Foster, who did also the later straps for JE, currently they are doing all the leather works for the Stones and ZZ Top.
The original Skeleton strap was used by John and is now in the collection of an american Who collector. My Skeleton strap was intended as second strap for John but was still in the make as John passed away. The Spider strap was also originally ordered by John but was also not completed during his lifetime. The Skeleton strap cost me a fortune and it was not easy getting it from them. Now we are real good friends and they gave me the Spider strap as a gift for being a true JE fan as they said.
Below see a picture of John with his original Skeleton strap, me with my Skeleton strap and a picture of both straps. The spider on the Spider strap is really 3-D.

Very nice straps and history Oliver! The 3D spider is nice and apparent on the first B&W picture but I didn't notice it until you mentioned, cool! Best, Art
