Yes Sir ! It is! I have watched this video a few times in the past and it is a pity that the video quality is so very bad. I remember seeing Hot Tuna Play live many times locally back in the day and seeing Jack play THAT Bass just 6 feet in front of me . Some friends introduced me to Jack & Jorma a while back. | ||

I really LOVED the sound of that Bass. Mr. Jack Casady did some what in my opinion is " unprecedented" Bass playing innovations with this instrument. Some of the sounds are just AWESOME !!!!!! From his choice of technique ,signal processing & equipment THE BASS and of course HIM ! I love HOT Tuna! Jack uses a Versatone amp for distortion. Try as I might I could not locate it on that stage; maybe because of the poor video quality, and maybe because it wasn't there. He says it works better with a semi-hollow bass. | ||

Yes the Versatone Amps ! I saw & heard him use them with 72-01( this Bass) @ Marx Meadow in Goldengate Park back in the 1970's along with a McIntosh 2300 and some Alembic A-15 cabs. I might know someone that still hass a few for sale, but they are not inexpensive and they look cheaply manufactured to be honest with you . The GREAT Carol Kaye also likes Versatones! | ||

Keavin, I have no idea if he would be interested in acquiring #12. At FPR classes when folks would show up with a variety of interesting instruments (including my Epic) he seemed only mildly interested in playing any of them; he seemed fairly focused on getting the most from his signature model Epiphone. But this is all speculation... | ||

It would be really cool if there were an ALEMBIC Jack Casady Signature Bass. Please excuse me If I am out of line with this statement but I just really appreciate what Mr. Casady has done for Bass Players . I am intrigued with what features this Bass would have . As always __ Sonic Regards ! | ||

According to Jack, #1 was dropped on a concrete floor & sent back to Alembic for repair of body cracks. He said the bass never sounded the same after it had been dropped. Good recorded examples of #1 include "Thirty Seconds over Winterland", "Baron Von Tollbooth and the Chrome Nun" and "The Phosphorescent Rat". (Message edited by PAS on June 25, 2010) | ||

I had the honor of playing Jack's Alembic before he dropped it (he also played my Guild...misses his, told me what happened to it)...it was a very nice axe, the pickups slid on brass trammels, had red LED's in the neck. Jack was a bit careless with his axes due to coke-a-rooskies excess....sad but true!! I'd never treat my Guild with such disrespect!!! :-) |
