For anyone who would like to hear a very good representation of what a 5 or 6 string series bass sounds like (tone-wise), try these links- bassist: Janolof Strandberg (some of you might know him- maybe a member of this club?) I've recently discovered his music and like it. (S1 or 2?, 5 or 6 string? with ds5-for bridge pickup with very little neck mixed in) http://www.janolofstrandberg.com/mp3/electric.mp3 (S1 or 2?, 5 or 6 string? with ds5-for neck pickup) http://www.janolofstrandberg.com/mp3/great2.mp3 (fretless- alembic signature with large standard body and AXY's i think, battery setup) http://www.janolofstrandberg.com/mp3/dominic.mp3 I think this one is the series bass in stereo mode- http://www.janolofstrandberg.com/mp3/shadow2.mp3 Here is an incredible sample video of a custom bass (fender shape, but neck thru) fitted with the series electronics- http://www.janolofstrandberg.com/mp3/live2.rm Here's a link to his instruments used- take a look at his awesome alembic arsenal. Note the custom built one with the full series electronics. http://www.janolofstrandberg.com/tools.htm this guy almost always uses alembics- sounds great too. my style of playing (although i'm not a professional musician) is very similar to his, he's much more advanced. enjoy- (Message edited by hifibassman on February 12, 2004) |

I thought these samples were very effective representations of what the legendary series bass sounds like, and it should lay to rest without any doubt what the "big dog" of alembic basses sound like. i can never get tired of listening to those instruments- i always turn it up loud when i'm at home on the computer and my wife tells me to turn it down. she thinks i'm an alembic nut. i am and who cares... |

Hello, Jan-Olof is a very good friend of mine and he IS an incredible bassist! I have known him for maybe 15 years and I spoke to him in the phone just last Monday. He does sometimes read our Club pages but let's urge him to join us in the conversation as well! He has a good collection of basses, also Alembics. I remember once he told me he had burglars in his home who stole only some cd's but left the Alembics untouched which were in their cases in the same room! For those who want to hear more of his playing I recommend you to buy his cd's as well. Awesome stuff! Oh yeah, as far as I can remember the neck trough bass is a Neuser with Series I electronics. And they were not so keen to sell him those pickups at Alembic...but he managed to buy them anyway..! The 6-string bass is a Series II and so is the 5-string bass. The fretless is a MK 4-strings on which he pulled the frets out later. all the bass Jan ps. I have Alembic T-shirt, mouse pad, stickers, etc...who said we're Alembic nuts..? |

Hi, Well, I don't really have a clue if they sell his cd's anywhere. I got them from him directly so maybe you should try e-mailing him and ask how to get hold of them, I'm sure you can get them this way. Jan-Olof plays also acoustic bass guitar and has a whole cd of it as well. all the bass Jan |
