Hi Markus, that last bass has a great sound. I'm slowly getting used to it. I can't believe how great a condition it was in. You must hardly have played it.

rjmsteel - Thanks! The original owner (who I bought it from) had it customized that way and I think it looks great too. He also added a complete set of tone switches and Q so it's a set for each pickup. All topped off with a 4-in-line Europa headstock.

serialnumber12 - I see that. I know the original owner went for some economy with the Spoiler elctronics. Mybe that was another $$ saver on his part. I can't really say since I've got 3 degrees of seperation and no way to ask. Seems to work okay though.. :-)

Hi all,

This is my "semi custom" bass.
It has new Macassar Ebony top & back with Zebrawood pin stripe.
Body shape is original by previous owner, but Soooo COOL !
I've never seen this shape.

That's right Taylor. I also have Black Beauties on the MK now. I'm not sure how to describe the tone except to say it's everything I want. Very full but with a very faint hint of chorus (or phaser - i'm crap at describing sounds) in the background. I initially bought them for the look but to me they feel fantastic. The tension is just right too.

Hi Jacko, I shied away from getting coloured strings for my Elan when I was looking for some heavier strings a few months ago as I was unsure whether the coating was long lasting.
Any views?

jazzy - the colour does come off pretty quickly around the plucking area so it looks a bit messy close up - less so from the audiences point of view. However, DR claim the actual 'playing' coating that affects the sound doesn't come off. Gigging two or three times a month with rehearsals I make them last 6 months before I change them but they'd probably last longer - I time it to coincide with oiling the necks.

Taylor; I've only ever played Elixirs on Mike Pisanek's Europa and they do feel and sound very nice. However, they're more expensive than the DR's and not as pretty ;-)

Personal fave = Elixirs - Superlight Guage

They outlast DRs and other gauges of Elixirs seem to get dead faster than Superlights (no idea why).

I put DRs on my lesser basses :-) because I don't play them nearly as much, but now that I think about it its probably not rational.
