But it seems that us newbies need to do something really substantial to garner the attention of the 'Alembic' forum uses here. Well, I am quite satisfied with my own personal inductance into the world of Alembic, and I do not have some need to belong to any 'club', but this forum really does have a feel that if you were not here before, or if all you are is a Joe Somebody, you are insignificant here. Kind of stuffy, actually. Sheeze, I am 49 years old. Built a bass in shop class when I was in High School, been playing since I was 6, yet, anything I post on this site never even gets a response. It would not bother me at the least except for the fact that I will one day want to upgrade. Would rather deal here, from a member, but I don't think I will ever be considered a 'member'. So, as I really want a Series II one day, I doubt the deal will be from here, since I am too little to have voice or opinion here. Later |

Slammin - I've been a club member since 2003, and I've found this forum to be anything but stuffy. Speaking only for myself, I found myself welcomed from day one. If you don't get a response to a post, I wouldn't read too much into it if I were you. I've posted things and not received responses. Folks just might feel they've got nothing to add, are busy with other things, etc. As for the Series II, there's a lot of places you can pick one up. I ordered mine through Bass Central and had it built (thanks, Beaver!). Used Series II's come up every now and then on the for sale section, so I'd recommend checking that often if you're in the market for a used Series II. If you're buying new, I can't recommend Bass Central enough. They're the greatest. Alan |

Hey, Slammin'! Sorry you feel left out, to some degree, but all I can add is that if you keep on posting you WILL get a response. We are all so involved in our own forays into the world of Alembic it's only a matter of time before you post something that others can relate to and comment on. For instance...I, too would eventually like a Series II (though I love my MK Sig Dlx and I'm glad she can't read this) and after my 100% positive experience with Beaver Felton at Bass Central I'd also like to highly recommend him as a dealer worth checking out when you finally take the plunge. But in the meantime, please stick around here! -Sam |

Hi slammin, I've been a club member since probably early 2002 before I bought my first Alembic and sometimes even now I get little response from some of my posts. However I think this may be because the questions asked or points i've made have been dealt with previously and the answers are readily available via a search of the forum. That said I agree some questions come up periodically and are responded to again by members without issue. So there are some topics that have a continual "favoured" interest to many members. I have purchased most of my alembic instruments from members of this forum and have found it a helpful and informative place to share and exchange knowledge about our instruments of choice. I have little doubt that should I be in a position to purchase a Series Bass in the future that the instrument will come from either a member here or I will be directed to a suitable instrument via a member here. The other thing to consider is that to my knowledge, ( there may be some exceptions), If you ask for information on an alembic that is currently on sale on ebay or craigs list etc you will not usually be bid against by a member. More often there is a great desire here to assist in ensuring you are getting a good deal. There have been many series basses appearing on ebay for sale that have not been genuine or don't even belong to the seller, it's just a bogus listing using real photo's. Many members here monitor that site for such instruments like hawks and ask a seller who seems suspicious probing questions that only a knowledgeable owner would be able to answer. Most will place a posting here and inform Alembic directly who will usually waste little time getting such listings removed or corrected via consultation with the seller or via ebay direct. My advice here is that it's worth hanging on in here, do a search before posting your question and you may find the answer without the need to post. We have lost some regular and knowledgeable posters here a while back after a spate of conflicts but that is not the norm. Jazzyvee |

Hey Ivan, don't be mad, forums sometimes can be like this but, like Alan said, there is nothing behind it. I'm kind of new too but since day 1 I felt well accepted also from the older members and I had the chance to meet a lot of old and new members in the Chicago gathering, so I can tell you that everybody were so nice and welcoming ( at that time I had just signed up ). Keep posting and good luck with your search of an SII. |

Hey Slammin, I've been a member for a couple of years and have posted a few threads that got some attention a a few that didnt. Dont let it bother you brother. If you'll review some achives alot has already been discussed therefore this may or may not be a reason you may not get responces from some of the members. And also some members (like me) that dont post that much use this site to simply gain some knowledge and ask questions for trouble shooting. I've gone for months not posting at all but that doesn't mean I havent been here keeping up! The members here are always willing to help when asked. I have noticed there is a click or certain group of members that do in fact communicate more closely. I've also noticed that these members have hundreds & even thousands of post so some type of friendship does develope over time. Also, yes I imagine there are some true heavy wieght professionals here that have played or are playing with the big time, heck they may be the big time, who knows or really cares, or as I call them road pros. I've been there and its not all what its cranked up to be and "they" will probably agree with me. (no disrespect meant to anyone) Again, some of "those" members use this site to keep up with buds! But thats just what I think, I dont know for sure, I could be totally wrong. I've been wrong once before :-) I have bought and sold several basses thru this site and trust me here...in my opinion your much better off dealing with a member on this site than say..e bay! And I hope you (and me) do get to order a custom Alembic one day soon! Later Bro....Peace & Remember The Golden Rule! Steve |

It's the Internet. It can be hard to tell what's really going on behind the virtual experience. I used to get a little tweaked cause I thought I had knack for killing threads. I would post a response that I thought was witty or hysterically funny and BAM! No more posts. I certainly wouldn't let that change my sense of humor. I can't think of any off hand, but maybe your posts are boring? No crime in that. |

Hey Ivan, apropos of nothing, it seems to suggest that you live in St. Louis (at least that's how I interpret TheLou). Have you run into Brad Sarno? Not only is he a great steel and guitar player, but he also makes some great preamps. Anyway, I hope you hang, I've enjoyed your input! |

This is a great place for the interested individual. Sometime a thread (like this one) will be up and running in no time. Others , not so much. I bought my first Spoiler in 1983, my first custom in 87. Since then my current stable of Alembics is at 10 basses and one guitar. I had 7 others but sold or traded them. The highest up in the scale was a signature deluxe. I have another custom on order and even though it has many special features its not a series, expensive, but not a series. I've never even played one! That might be a good thing. Keep your eyes open and you will achieve your goal. The folks here are great to deal with even with non Alembic items and their prices are very fair. Just be ready with the duckets when the time comes. Also as many here can attest, it can be a very strong addiction, this Alembic thing. Also no offense to my fellow member here, I would rather hang out with models too! I would gravitate to the Asian ladies but beauty is beauty, just like our collective instrument obsession. (though I may be blackballed for my Status Kingbass Black beauty order. Shhhhussss) |

To the original poster, I think it may be something about the internet in general. I consider myself a "thread killer" - not so much here, but on other bass sites it seems like when I post a response to a thread, the thread just dies! And there are plenty of times when I post something and it gets completely ignored. It used to bother me, but then I realized that there are lots of times when other people post and I ignore their posts. So I don't think it's anything personal, it's just an (unfortunate) aspect of how the internet works. If you were in a face to face conversation and said something and were completely ignored it would be considered extremely rude but on the internet it's normal. (I actually had a friend that would do that in person - very annoying!) So let's see if this thread dies now that I've joined in! |

Ivan, I don't think you are being ignored. I will say I feel a certain closeness to a limited set of members as I have met or had discussions with them for a number of years. It took some time to get to this point. Because of this I might say some things in short hand or worded in a way that is not clear to someone new. This is not meant as a slight to newer members. One thing I have noticed since I joined (I'm not an old timer by any means) is the change in how folks relate. Before I joined I followed the board for six or so months. During this time I learned the nature of the board and how people related to each other. When I joined I was then able to fit in with the flavor of the board. This used to be typical for how you worked on the internet with groups. I have noticed this protocol is not used anymore and new folks seem to just pop in before learning how the group interacts. I feel the end result is less that optimal for both the new and old members. If you are looking for a Series II at some point I would not be put off looking, discussing or posting a "wanted to buy" here at the club. In the end you will probably get more assistance than you desire and the pricing would be the same as that given to any club member. Keith P.S. There was a time I thought I was the thread killer king. I just chalked it up to being too late to a conversation with folks of short attention spans (me included). LOL |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7letrMf_nE Don't sweat it Ivan, I spent about 3-4 years just reading threads on this board before I "chimed in", and once I did, it was only after placing the order for my first custom. In hindsight, if had been involved in more discussions earlier, my bass would probably been influenced, and for the better! When it comes to 'inside deals' on this board, yes there are certain members who offer first-dibs on their instruments via email to other members that they "know" would be interested. But for the most part, some of the most highly coveted Alembics get dusted off by the random collector/player who's first post is in the FS section, and from there on out it's fair game to everyone here!... I'm a true believer in synchronicity, especially with the "tools" of our trade... that Series II WILL find it's way to you when the time is right!!!!! |

In reference to the OP, as most others have said, there is an ebb and flow to this board. I've posted things which I thought would create much meaningful dialogue, but received zero response. I've posted things which I was certain were inane ramblings that ended up providing some nice, useful and very thoughtful discussion. I think lately though everyone (mostly) has been feeling the economic pinch and activity here has been low. Hopefully things will pickup again soon and the happy chat will resume. I believe you'll discover that this is a great family. John |

Ivan, Its a bummer that your experience so far has not lived up to your expectations and made you feel ignored and not included. Alembic club folks are a mixed bag of every personality trait and foible that you could dare imagine. However there is not even a hint of nastiness or ill-will. Dude you are a member! Not sure how anyone is supposed to be aware of this or why it is relevant. Sorry you felt snubbed, but its just an internet forum. I like to visit to drool over the pics and sometimes get some valuable info. It is the Alembic "Club" in name only and there are no initiation rituals or prerequisites. P.S. Where is the post you made that didn't get any response? Try to link it here and you'll probably get some attention now. |

slammin, don't get discouraged, I don't even own an alembic but I have mostly sat back and read the posts and if one stirred the juices I'd add my 2 cents in. I always found every one in the forum do be exceptionally responsive, but sometimes I will post an observation, link or comment and don't really expect to get any response. If I do then great, if not well that's ok too. But I never feel like I can't express my opinon or pose a question that goes unread. I think when you have a significant amount of older. maybe I should say "seasoned" players hanging in the forum we only really respond when something either gets to us or stirs some memories about the "good old days" |

Ivan, this has, for me, turned into a very interesting thread that reflects my experience on the club. As I started reading the posts I was thinking "I'm going to post that I have often thought that I am the thread killer." A thread is interesting, everyone seems to be having a great chat, I post something and the thread goes flat. Then, as often happens, someone else said it first. Often, I have something to say and someone else says it; no reason for me to say it again unless it's one of the "Hey, how many of you out there .....?" type of threads. So many of us have had the same experiences over the years and have the same comments to make. The only threads I truly ignore are the ones in which someone seems to be trying to stir someone up and pick a fight. There are others that I never post to because I don't know anything about the topic. I read them because I want to learn but I have nothing to add. For example, the technical stuff is way over my head. When people start talking about the Series instruments (which I do not own) I just stay out. So, Ivan, I don't think anyone is intentionally leaving you out of the conversation. I hope you continue to post to the threads that interest you. Things around here have changed a bit but I think this is still a very civil and respectful bunch of folks. Rich |

well well...I can relate to how slammin Ivan felt. (past tence, it appears he's gone) or he's just sitting back laughing! It does seem to get a little stuffy on some threads at times to me. I post very little but when I have, my attempts to partisipate don't seem to generate much responce. That's possibly because what ever I posted may not have deserved a responce. I can accept that. When I have attemped humor, I've recieved sarcasm. I can accept that too. Whose fault is that? Mine and none other! It's dificult communicating (for me anyway ) personality and feelings on this form. So, as for me..I take it with a bucket of salt..you can't take it too personal... if you do it is time to turn it off or do what I and many others do....sit back, stop posting for a while & read the threads, which is what I'ma fixin ta do! This is www.internet , the whole world is here, and we all are in this together and we certainly ain't gonna get out of here alive!
