I've got a 1990 Elan in what appears to be coco bolo (will be requesting build sheet from Mica shortly) with a ding in the front of the finish. Looks like a guitar cable got whipped into the front while the bass was sitting on a stand. I'm investigating its repair. Did some research and found that most of the build sheets show 1990 Alembic basses were finished in Polyester. I am hopeful the finish is Nitrocellulose, which allows for an easier repair. Does anybody have any feedback on how to test the finish, or knowledge about whether Nitro was still being used in 1990 (probably getting pressure for the state of CA and EPA). Thanks

We've never used nitrocellulose, so that's pretty easy. It's more than likely the same polyester finish we still use.

Spot repairs are possible sometimes, I'd need to see a picture to make that estimation for you.

Thanks Mica,

I'll work on getting a picture.
