I've been looking for a Alembic five string with a short scale neck. I have a Rouge 5 ..34" scale and tune with a Low B and its always been just fine. I was just a fixin to pull the trigger and purchase a SC 5 string 30.75 scale and it was pointed out to me there coule be some issues with a Low B on a 30.75 neck !*&*!* This is a area I am not very knowledgeable with.
What do you think?

Later Bro..Peace

Steve; I've never had a short scale five string, so I don't know the answer. My guess is that with the right strings it shouldn't be a problem. This has been discussed before, so you might want to run a site search and see what others have had to say.

If you want to get an approximation of what it would feel/sound like, tune your Rogue down a whole step and capo on the 2nd fret. That puts you at about 30.5"

Steve, I'm anxious to hear what you found out with Charles suggestion. Can you get a clear and playable tone?

Dennis,
I finally had a chance (actually have just been lazy) to tune down & k pole. It sounded just fine to me and no problems playing.
I also play guitar which I imagine many here do, and the thought to k pole a bass never entered.
In a band setting if a tune was transposed sharp or flat it's fairly easy to simply scale up or dowm.
Off subject I have been considering adding a hip shot extender de tune. I've inquired to them about specs and they now have a 3 position extender available.
Hey Dave,
I listened to your demos....very nice....I especially like demo 5 & 11.
