Does anyone know of a retailer (with stock!) of the 5-string bass set this side of the Atlantic? American Guitars and Bassworld in the UK is out at the moment and most US-based retailers have huge shipping charges (one insists on a minimum 40 dollar charge no matter how small the order - plus we in UK then pay 20% import tax from US). |

Hi Clarkybass, when I was looking for alembic strings i couldn't get any at all in the UK as bassword didn't have any stock plus their prices were high I thought. I had problems getting short scale bass strings too and in the end got some from Juststrings.com in the USA and even after the tax and delivery etc it was still a good deal. They arrived in under a week. http://www.juststrings.com/alembicelectricbassguitar.html Jazzyvee |

Any reason why you use Alembic strings? I use Elites but have a set of gold plated ones(can't remember the manufacturer)on at the moment as they were an gift. |

Terry; I think Alembic strings are what M.W. Thomas uses. So if you're after that tone, Alembic strings might help. |

In answer to a couple of comments above: Thanks jazzyvee but juststrings are the ones who say 40 dollar minimum mailcharge for international orders on their web pages Terryc: There are two reasons I like Alembic strings - the good reason is that I find the elliptical windings quite soft and comfortable, especially for a stainless steel string - tha bad one is I like the turquoise coloured string windings! |

clarkybass..I must admit the Elites s/steel are very abrasive to both fingers and frets!! |
