Hall to all. I have a questions. I set up my alembic europa 4 string. I put rotosound 45-105 nickel strings. I would like to ask if there is a way to tight the strings because there are leisurely. That is a problem when I play the bass (i play a little nervus my bass), or when I try to slap with it. I know that is a stupid question, but if anyone knows something I would like to hear it.

PS: the set up have done (my english sucks , I know), by a very good technician.

Hi Daffy,

The tightness (or looseness) of a string is something you cannot really change. When tuned to a certain pitch, the string will feel as loose or tight as physical laws, string design choices, and scale length dictate.

If you need strings with a tighter feel, you'll need to change to other strings - what about a 50-110 set?

Is it the DR Lo-riders that have extra stiffness (relative to similar gauges of other manufacturers) to them ?

Thanks a lot. I used to use 45-105 to all of my basses and I don't have the same problem yet. Maybe this happens because of the style of the bridge? I don't know. Maybe I have to increase the distance between the string and the fretboard? I don't think so.

Perhaps your Europa is a medium scale, 32" instead of regular long scale 34"? That would explain why the string woud feel loose.

Measure the distance from the nut to the 12th fret, it should be 16", or about 40.6 cm.

Ok. I will measure it. If it is a medium scale bass, there is something that I can do for this?

You can always use heavier strings for extra Tension or you can raise your Action...

You mention that you have Rotos in the exact same sizes on your other basses. But are they the exact same type of Rotosound string as on the other basses?

The discussion on this thread might also be of interest to you.

Both of the strings are the ROTOSOUND SWING BASS 66. The new one was RS66LD. The old set I don't remember the exactly type.
