Do you mean gold plated?? Gold being the most malleable and ductile metal(as well as expensive) would not last. The plating would come off pretty quickly and if you could afford solid gold frets then they too would not last long either, especially with abrasive stainless steel roundwound strings |

Mica mentions 'gold colored frets' in the October Special: Here's a goodie of a special if you need to customize lots of different things on the same intrument. For all models, you can choose 4 options and save 35% off the retail price of each one. This is a special to let your creativity run wild! I'm picturing a Stanely Clarke Signature Deluxe in Coco Bolo with continuous wood backplates, side LEDs in red, blackened brass hardware, and an inlaid logo. Could also make a smashing Further guitar in Burl Maple with gold plated hardware, amber side LEDs and continuous wood backplates. Imagine a Rogue bass in Macassar Ebony with a Purpleheart fingerboard, black mother of pearl oval inalys and purple side LEDs. Turn a once-humble Essence into a prince with Flame Purpleheart top and back, Europa electronics, gold colored frets and gold plated hardware. See what happens when you get started? When you're ready to start planning your next Alembic bass or guitar, call Susan or Mica at (707) 523-2611. Your order must be received by October 31st to qualify for the October Special. |

We've made just one bass with these gold colored frets, and it's not done yet. Here's a couple of snapshots: There's still residue from the masking tape on the fingerboard, but you can probably tell they look rather nice. The color is a result of the copper alloy it's made from and the color goes all the way through. These frets are harder than the normal nickel silver frets, but not as hard as the stainless steel wire. I have a feeling you'll be seeing more of this fretwire, since it looks so darned cool! |

Oh I see... alloy to combat wear..very clever! Is it gold or is it like brass which polishes to a high lustre?? Nice bass as well(as we would expect anything less!) |
