Well, it's something we actually don't make a specification for, since we expect each player to set it to thier personal tastes. If there is nothing specified, we set the neck pickup fairly low and bridge pickup fairly high. On the Epic, there isn't a separate gain control inside for each pickup, so you'll need to set them the way I've described if you want the pan control to have a similar volume at either extreme.

If you don't care about a volume change, then go ahead and experiment with different pickups heights. It can really change the sound, and more than just the gain.

Make sure you understand our peculiar way of setting the height by reading the Care Guide so you don't break the mount.

Thanks Mica,i'll take care doing it and experiment with it,they are quite far from the strings right now,so looking forward to hearing them after a bit of tweaking, cheers,Julian.

i also have an epic i followed the care guide and the adjustment was easy i felt the tone had too treble for me so i lowered the bridge pickup and raised the neck pickup this experiment seems to have been a success as i prefer the tone the pickups are real easy to adjust i dont no why other companies dont use the system it is alot better than pickups on springs in my limited experience i suppose thats just one of the things that make alembic different you can tell thought went into every aspect of every bass design

Hi mint bass, yes i agree,iv'e just adjusted mine now and it sounds good to me,i've brought them up closer to the strings, but still kept the volume balance between them, more punch from what i can tell,i do like the way you can lock them to stop them moving around, and if you use the pickup for your thumb support when playing it is nice and solid,a great pickup adjustment idea!cheers,Julian.
