I recently purchased an '85 Persuader 4 string from my bass teacher. The serial number is 85 P 3815. Could you give me some information in this beautiful piece of work? Also some tips on how to clean and maintain it? The bridge, saddles and nut haven't been cleaned in a while. Thanks for your help and thanks for making such great instruments.

Congratulations on your Persuader. Does it have a medium (32 inch) scale? You came to the right place for advice on care and feeding of an Alembic.

For the brasswork, there are many cleaners that will work. Others in this Club will no doubt have good suggestions. But I have had good results with Flitz metal polish. You can get a little tube (all you'll need) at any hardware store or you can order off the Alembic site. Follow the instructions, but I would add - use the stuff sparingly. A little will do the job. Once any excess dries into the nooks and crannies, it's a devil to get off.

Be sure and post some pictures of your new acquisition. If you don't, a couple guys named Paul will start nagging and complaining.

Congratulations again and welcome!

Welcome Randy!

A machinist!!! Please be my friend!

I use Mr. Metal, which I bought at my local grocery store on a whim. It costs about $6 for a 4 or 5 ounce squeeze bottle and works suprisingly well. If it dries, rub some more and it is gone.

You should post a picture, so we can all Oooo and Ahhhh at it. But regardless, a hearty welcome to the friendliest place I have found on the Net.
