Just checking out the NAMM page, and it seems that alembic isn't going to NAMM. it would be kinda cool see you guys at the show. also, i heard a rumor: i dont know if it is true, but i have been told that stanley isnt using Alembic any more. that seems a little weird of them to say, but is strange none the less.... |

It cost $$$ to have a booth at NAMM. Alembic has more of a niche market, thus it probably wouldn't be a cost effective proposition. Although Stanley endorses a few other vendors, I don't think he ever totally quit using his Alembics (which he paid for BTW). |

The only people who pay for the NAMM show is the end customer. We realized about 10 years ago that even the cheapest we could go (with 2 people, inexpensive hotel, small booth, driving the equipment down) was way too much money to spend to tell people we're still doing what we've always been doing. We haven't exhibited at a summer NAMM show in almost 20 years. Stanley plays lots of different basses. He plays his Alembics more than other electric basses. |

Josh, IF you ordered a bass tomorrow, it could take a year to get it, from a company that rarely spends a nickel on advertising. Doesn't sound like they need to go to NAMM to me. Stanley is like a lot of artists: They have the luxury of closets full of axes, and often will pull this one or that one for something specific. Rare to find anybody that plays the same axe every time / all the time in his league. You'd probably be surprised what guys who are very identified by one axe play WHEN there are no cameras around to violate those endorsement contracts . . . J o e y |

Damn it! I was kinda hoping to go to NAMM, this year, but I just realized that's the very same date we're playing somewhere. I would really love to meet Stanley, in person. I've seen him live, 4 times, and he was incredible, each and every time. One memorable show was in a place called "The Vineyard" in Pittsburgh. I saw him roll up to the stage in his van, his Alembic strapped on, and he was playing. He got out, and took the stage. While he was playing, he actually allowed people in the audience to come up on stage and play his actual bass during a rendition of "Mothership Connection." I wish I'd had the guts to go up there and play, but I was terrified to go up and make an idiot of myself. I wish now that I had taken the chance because most anyone looks like a fool next to Stanley, anyways, so it doesn't much matter, you know? Today, if he gave people that same chance, I would be up on that stage in a flash! Peace All- and Merry Christmas! Frank |
