Good day all. I am thinking of making a puchase for the following: 1992 Elan long scale 5 string bass Quilted maple top walnut pinstripe maple body Elan electronics plastic oval inlays plastic backplates 7 piece maple/purpleheart neck ebony fretboard Alembic Gotoh chrome tuners brass hardware bronze logo completed 6/16/92 The gentlemen I may purchase the Elan from appears to be a great fellow. I need your advice on the price. I am looking at paying about $2200 US. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Bill, Nice Elan. $2200 would be a great price - for you. Other than the purple heart neck laminates and flight case it's a nice example of a stock Elan. Hopefully someone with an ebay account will do a search for past Elan sales to reference against. Personally, I'd be prepared to go a little higher. But that's because I have an Elan 4 and to have a 5 would be great. Good luck. |

Thanks Bill, but you better buy it. I can't afford it even at that price. An Elan 5 is in my future, but not at this time. "There's always another one." |

The Elan is back on the market. Due to us helping out with a hardship of a family member and me being tapped out from another bass purchase, I could not go through withe sale. If any of you are interested in it, the seller's name is Chris. His email address is: chris@pearlcomputer.com He is an easy guy to work with. |

G'day from Melbourne. The bass looks really sweet and the flight case is definately a bonus. I am sure you will not put it down for the longest time. Congratulations! slawie |

Way to go jbabies. My Elan is a 4 with the PJ pups. I didn't care much for it when it first came as I am so used to guitar ergonomics. I've mentioned before I'm trying bass after 50 years of guitar. Anyway it is growing on me after about a month and I find that it just sounds and FEELS like nothing else. After watching your own Tal Wilkenfield I had to say to myself "man up dude!" By the way, I'd love to string up a 5 as E A D G C Congratulations (Message edited by skyboltone on February 01, 2011) |

Am finally close to getting the Elan, first there was blizzards in Missouri and nothing was moving, then UPS sent it to Kentucky, then Anchorage ,Alaska, then Hong Kong in China (yes really!). It is now in Singapore and should be in Perth tommorrow. I used to wonder why freight is so expensive and now I know... |

Great purchase of a gorgeous Elan there. I'm confident you will be blown away. There is something of a great character to the sound of an all maple Elan. Very bright chunky and powerful when you need it but controllable when you are being subtle. Skyboltone, when i got my Europa it was strung that way and the bass had an amazing sound that seemed to have more resonance, sustain and richness of tone than it does now that I have re-strung it back to standard. However most of my bass playing doesn't include the higher end so a low B is more useful. I guess a 6 stringer would give the best of both worlds and a whole new learning curve. Jazzyvee |

We need sometime to get used to this different concept about eletronics and how to get the most from the filter, but once you get it, it is tottaly addictive. All my other basses got shadowed since I started to use my Rogue (I imagine how would be if I had a Series...). Alembic make the ultimate basses, great purchase! |
