Hey all, So I found a pawn shop that is selling some alembic pickups and I really want them. However they want 600 for them which seems a little much to me personally. They look like humbuckers, are orange and beat up. I'm guessing 70s ish era. Please let me know if this is a good deal or not. And I guess what these babies are really worth. Thanks! |

If they are 70s Alembic pickups, then they won't be humbuckers but single coils, and there should also be a third item, namely the humcanceller (the "middle pickup" you see on nearly all Series instruments). You need to get some pictures of what is included, since it may be incomplete and of very limited use (unless you have a vintage Alembic that needs replacements for the pickups only). If it includes the whole circuitry, 600 sounds like a splendid deal, even if it needs the upgrade to tackle the problem of modern-day HF interference. |

Just to reiterate what Adriaan said: The PUPs are really of no use with out the electronics. All Alembic PUPs are single coil (or a hum canceling design) and LOW impedance. The low impedance means that you can't just substitute them for the stock PUPs found in most instruments. |
