I am in negotiations in purchasing an Alembic Spoiler Bass from a non member and outside of e bay. Seller wants pre payment thru pay pal. I countered C.O.D. I am skeptical since no buyer protection from e bay. What say you? Thanks Steve |

Steve, Where is the bass located? There may be someone from the club willing to assist with the transaction. Art |

yeah you should see if any member in your area will act as a broker to see if you can close "escrow" on this instrument. |

Bass is located in Penn, Philia serial no 83S2844. He sent plenty of photos. Dont know any members in my neck of the woods (cen tx) I told him my concerns and seller said pay pal would refund my money if I didnt recieve the bass. He also said pre pay thru pay pal or no sale. I really want this bass! I have purchased a bass from a club member before and on e bay but never outside. Am I being to cautious? Dont want to piss him off to the point of no sale. Does pay pal credit back for unrecieved items? Steve |

Steve - I think artswork and jseitang were saying you should look for an Alembic club member in Philly, who can at least go see the instrument physically and make sure it's worth doing. No matter how you do it, if you don't go to the instrument there's some amount of risk. Whether it's worth it or not is up to you. It's a challenging slope here. If you send somebody money and they don't send you the goods, then PayPal can hold payment to the seller until things are resolved - but this is a process that can take months to complete and you (or the seller) won't have the money until it's settled. This also applies if there is damage in shipping, loss in shipping, or if you get the instrument and it's not what you expected. You can't reasonably expect the seller to wait until you receive it to get payment either. What if you don't pay? What if you damage the instrument after taking delivery? Even if you sent it back, they can't be made whole. David Fung |
