Anyone know of a good guitar repair in LA who can perform standard maintenance (set-ups, etc.) on Alembics? Don't want to hand my bass over to someone who doesn't know what they're doing. I know McCabe's and Westwood Music do good work but not necessarily on Alembics.

Any help? Thanks, Mike

Oh, and when I say "LA", I mean Los Angeles and not Louisiana.

Thanks! Mike Bisch

If you were in Louisiana, I could do it.

Call this guy,
John Wescott (818)761-0456. Tell him Dino; a friend of Albie Dunbar recommended him. Every bass that I played that was set up by him was great!!!!

Peace,
Dino

Dino,

How funny - John Wescott does all the work on my other (Fender) basses! I already set up an appointment with him and asked him about the Alembic - he didn't sound like he had too much experience with them but he was willing to take a shot at it. I take it the work he's done for you includes Alembics? Let me know.

Thanks, Mike

Hey Mike,

I've never actually had the opportunity to have John work on my basses. I usually have my basses set up here in Boston before I head out of town. My buddy Albie has John set his basses up which run the gammut from his original Tobias, to his Fenders and Warwicks.
I've seen John's work as I'm sure you know it as well. I wouldn't have any reservations about having him work on my Alembics seeing what he's done with Albie's basses.

Peace,
Dino

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I'll keep my appointment with John and have him take a look.

Thanks, Mike

I don't do set up as a profession - but I know how to do it and am very familiar with Alembic set up procedure - no different in principle but the hardware is different and you have to know what to adjust to get the set up corect. I'm in Orange County and wouldn't charge you if you wanted some help. I set my own basses up and they play great. gwilson001@adelphia.net if you are interested
