I think we remember this one "We made two complete guitars which were presented by Electronic Arts and Double Fine to Jack Black and Kyle Gass." And there was a giveaway by EA (game manufacturer) A while ago I found this one for sale somewhere on a message board (I think it was a gaming board) Check it out:

According to the Featured Custom page this does not appear to be an Alembic product. |

Also there seems to be no logo and no Alembic electronics, but if I'm not mistaken this (or these) was (were) advertised as Alembic(s) in the giveaway... These quotes are from the above ad: "This guitar is one of about 6 guitars made for the release, one of which was given to Jack Black himself and his Tenacious D partner Kyle Gass, one to the band who did the soundtrack for the game and the others were given away as prizes to lucky winners." And: "The actual specs of the guitar are listed on the website itself with the difference of the headstock which was changed by the company to make the guitar more playable rather than a set piece for jack and Kyle." Obviously, there are more differences. |

No, I hope that Texas toiler has retired by now. EA had some other guitars made as promotional pieces. I think they were for high-performing sellers of the game. We sold them some hardware since the carving for the top mold was made to fit our hardware and the guitars were made by a shop somewhere on the peninsula. It wouldn't be the first time someone tried to sell something as an Alembic that wasn't. |

We made the Alembic ones for Jack and Kyle as previously stated. In addition EA had us make a group of blank maple bodies that they took to a shop to finish off. These were used as rewards to top sellers and managers. We did supply tailpieces and bridges for them to fit the molded tops. Providing these components in no way makes them even close to an Alembic. We are not responsible for the fit, finish and sound of these items. Now the ones that were made for Jack Black and Kyle Gass while it may not have been your Cup O' Tea, were every inch an Alembic. They were finished beautifully and sounded great and I'm very proud we stepped out of our normal comfort zone to do this project. I personally had fun in the spray booth guiding Bob as to how I wanted the color then applying the antiquing for the bas-relief figures. |
