The 5 maple pieces that make up the neck are very different in shades. Also, this bass has been defretted, and has a beautiful flame walnut body front. Maple can come in lots of beautiful and differing shades. The two darker pieces are a bookmatch, just like the outside pair. I also noted in the file that the bass is fretless now.
