Keavin has got me thinking about how many Alembic Dragon inlays there are in circulation.

So far I have found three.

I have a dragon behind my basses (when I'm playing) Does that count? :-)

There are some others here, Danno's 6 string Spoiler, a lefty Series bass and an old one (no 999?) as far as I know

Dragon magic is the best (guitar) of course, awesome guitar!

Drool!

Here's the lefty:

And "the old one" (though it's a body inlay)

I love the shape of that old bass. It seems a more elaborate version of Keavin's No:12

It's interesting that the John Judge Dragon is heading towards the body of the bass in contrast to the others which are heading towards the nut.

Okay. I have the original story. I worked for Alembic on and off starting 1972 for about four years. I decided I wanted to buy an Alembic bass with an employee discount (who wouldn't?).

My brother commissioned the artwork for the dragon, and I ordered the bass. I wanted a long-scale bass with omega tail, and a fairly straight neck (I used to play an old P bass with a neck like that.)

Susan Wickersham remembered correctly that I was left handed, and changed the custom order to be a left handed bass. One problem: I play right handed. Thus the first dragon bass was lovely (it's the one posted by fc_spoiler), but it wasn't for me.

I got the second one, and I'll have to post some pictures of it.

But clearly Alembic liked the artwork, and made several more based on the artwork! I'm proud of that.

Any more guitars with dragons? Surely mine can't be the only alembic guitar with a dragon can it?

How cool would that be?
