Hi Ya'll. I made a request yesterday (see 93 K7829) for the history on my "new" bass but I must have had a digit wrong in the serial number. I looked at the numbers again last night and there are two that are a bit hard to read. I now think it's 98 K7829, but the other possibilities are either 93 K7329 or 93 K7629, I suppose either of those could also start with "98". This is a flame maple on maple 5 string fretless Essence. The pickups look newer than my old 92, the say Alembic on the covers, so I suspect this one may be a 98. A response I got yesterday indicated what I thought was the serial number belonged to a mahogany body Essence. Please help or explain. Thx, Videroo

Videroo, It is certainly not a 98, I own a 97 and the serial on that is 10xxx, the initial request for 1993 looks accurate according to listed serial numbers of the instruments of that year. You mentioned in your other request that you were trying to read the serial number from a photo. Do you now have the bass? Art

We should try and keep the thread going on one thread so as not to get erroneous requests going on multiple threads. When the correct serial is discovered I can edit the thread title to reflect the appropriate change in serial number. Please post into one of your threads when discovered and I will change the title accordingly. Thanks, Art

Thanks Art, I wondered about the number range for 98. Yes I have the bass (at home, I'm at my office right now). I will check for the s/n in the controls cavity when I get home tonight. It must be the "8" that I'm miss reading, which could be either a "3" or a "6". I sent you an e-mail, to your own e-mail address, with a photo. Take a look and see what you think. Is it possible I have the number right and the previous description you sent was wrong ? I'll stick with this thread now. Thx, Videroo

That is a possibility and if so then that may be the only information on file for the bass. Email sent to you too. When it arrives I will certainly let you know what I see. Art

Well, at least part of the mystery is solved. I did have the serial number correct, it IS 93 K7829. It is clearly marked inside the cavity. However, that still leaves the "wood mystery". This bass is deffinitely NOT a Mahogany body, its Maple and, there is no blemish of any kind, in the wood or otherwise, on the back of the body or, anywhere else for that matter. Any help clearing up this mystery would be greatly appreaciated. Played it last night for the firt time with my gang of players, great fun and it sounds very cool. I found myself tripping over the (High C) 5th string a few times, it'll take a little getting used to. I think I'll also need to do some fine tuning on the set up, with the help of the prior owner. Overall though, a Great Bass, I love it. Thx, Videroo

I have renamed the title of this thread and marked your other thread as completed. When this comes up on Mica's radar there will be another look at the wood card. Glad that you are enjoying the bass, Play it Healthy! Art

There was a previous look-up in April '03. I always struggle with those "here it is" responses.
