I joined in Jan. 2005 - I thought I had joined earlier. I got my first Alembic in Jan. 2002, I think that's why I was confused.

Before the Alembic Club started, there was a Yahoo group that was pretty active for a while. The one linked to above was the second incarnation, as the first group disappeared off the map. I seem to remember the Yahoo pages generally underwent some changes that were not particularly well-received, and activities soon ground to a halt when this here Club came alive.

As it happens, tomorrow is my 10th anniversary as a member here - Jazzy, you beat me to it!

I've been a member for 7 1/2 years, but was a lurker for a good while beforehand.

I think I signed up the same night I read Valentino's "what happens when you wait too long" post about the price increases. I think I ended up calling the next day to start my custom.

I've been a member for 4 years next month. I remember researching for my best "last" bass and finding this website. After much looking and reading i decided to buy an Alembic. Best choice ever. Now i have a featured custom; never imagined that. This Club has increased my musical knowledge ten fold. Blessed and thankful to be a member. John

Eight years, next month. I had lusted for an Alembic since playing in a band in Pasadena in the 70's with a guy who had one of the very early guitars and had just purchased my first Alembic, an Electrum, at the July guitar show in San Rafael. I called Alembic with a question and was invited to bring it on up. I met Susan, Ron, Mica, Mary, and Valentino. Ron went through the guitar which had a couple of wires crossed, and quickly straightened things right up. No charge!!!! They treated me like I had bought a $15,000 custom from them when I hadn't given them a dime (yet)! I've been a huge Alembic supporter ever since.

Time flies when you're having fun!

Yeah I can agree, it has been a great learning experience being a member of the club. When I saw the bass I wanted in a shop in my town I rang Mica about it. She suggested I get the serial number and then she could tell me a little more. So i rang and got the serial number. Mica told me the bass was from a selection they had made for the Bass Centre in London and the one I was looking at was a SC Deluxe and lots other things about the controls that didn't really make any sense to me.

As it happened, the shop had it marked as an SC Standard and priced accordingly. So not only did I get the bass cheaper since it they were clearing out their unsold alembic stock at a 25% reduction I got a negotiated further discount too and got a better bass than they thought they were selling me. So I was pretty happy on that day. I've learnt a lot about guitars and basses since being an active member here I had peeked in before but got much more from joining.

For my 10th year here it's been a great year so far. Started off by eventually getting a Series bass at the beginning of the year, went on a factory tour in April near my birthday. Got to meet Bill and some of the other forum members when I went over for the the california Gathering.

How many companies would replace hardware on a 9 year old bass under warranty because they are not happy with the way it had aged? Not many I'm sure..... .Thanks Mica and your team.

I think there is still a desire for a small body series bass but not the justification yet.

btw. I still can't identify the sound of the ebony lams but I'm learning to hear more harmonic overtones which i'm not sure is a good thing. .... :-)

Jazzy,

If you want to hear the ebony, remember that most bass cabinets don't really produce the fundamental very well. I don't know what those PJ cabs look like in terms of frequency response, but Mesa Boogie (along with basically all commercial bass cabinets) heavily accentuates the midbass (which is way above the fundamental).

If you have a nice set of headphones, the difference might be easier to pick out.

I just passed 6 years on June 7th, and much to my surprise, I have only been reprimanded for inappropriate posting ONCE!

This place is one of my favorite resources on the interwebs. Simply learning to set up my bass would have been worth the price of admission, but there has been so much more.

I'd like to say that the customer service is unparalleled, but I hardly qualify as a customer, yet still receive unparalleled service.

Hi Mary!, Hi Mica!

Just under 9 years, when I got my first Alembic, a Spoiler-Exploiter, zebrawood top, mahogany body, maple neck. Now I have a Series II, a SC Sig Std, an Epic, and an Essence.

I wish I could post some pics of my bass, but if you go to "Alembic Store", under "Basses", mine is the 9th one down, on the far left.

Jazzy's link is a good place to start- the link all the way at the bottom, 'Joey's' bass setup instructions have become the go-to resource here on the forum in most cases.

Hi Jacko, I fancy grabbing some of the new 3 position q-switches for my signature basses. I wonder if you could pick them up for me when you visit there later this year?

It's been 10 years this month for me, with a brief (about a year) stint on the Yahoo group prior to that. This forum has always been my most regularly visited website. I never thought I'd post over a thousand comments on a forum. It's easy here!
Thanks again to the Wickershams and all the members here who make this a unique home on the internet.

According to the info to the left, since 2002. I took a 'sabbatical' for a year or two whne Life just got to be a little too-hair-raising, then came back.

How in the hell have I had that much to say??

May 04, this year. I turned 60 in Feb., and knew it was finally time to satisfy an entry on my Bucket List: Acquire an Alembic.

I joined and became very agressive in my search and let my desires be made known here. Thanks to a lead from hammer, I found my Distillate...'82 Quilt Maple beauty! Now searching for my 2nd (Model as yet unknown, but it's coming!)

Since last February (2011) when I checked the local Craigslist and got my first Alembic - a Rogue. I knew them from a long time ago (Greg Lake and Stanley) and looked them up. Wow - they were still around! And I loved the modern looking custom stuff. And a year later, number 2, a fretless Elan - Oh Yeah...... did some one say Series I or II??? LOL

For future exclamations, Michael, (replacing "backslash" with \ , of course) backslashi{backslashb{text}} will get you bold and italic. Because sometimes you need to shout, right?

8 years next month. Not an elder around the club, don't have a high-end Alembic, not a full time pro player but I like everything about this entire Alembic experience.
Here's to another 8 years + around here.
