I recently bought this Alembic Excel 5-string bass form one of the leading guitar/bass shops in Norway. I guess it`s been hanging around for quite a time, as I bought it as a brand new bass at a bargain price. No documents however, so I only got the Serial number to track down its history- 99X12196 USA

Welcome to the forum.

Here are some starting points for finding out about the bass.

Enjoy that bass. One of the members here Rami is quite partial to the Excel so he may share some of his wisdom on them if you have any questions.

Looks like you have a great bass there. I got my first Alembic guitar from a shop in Germany, it had been hanging round there for I think about 10 years unsold so when I bought it it was still brand new also.

Thanks alot Jazzyvee :-)

This instrument is absolutely first range, and I`m already totally adicted. Amazing how it`s possible to shape the sound in so many ways, with one pickup only. The playability is fantastic with smooth and clean fretboard all the way, leaving nothing left than clean and punchy sound.

You just bought it? Wow, it had been hanging around for a while! The first 2 digits in the S/N tell us it was built in 1999. That's a long time in the store.

Yes, it`s a long time in the store if that`s the end of story. Could be it`s been "hanging" around in different places, as I don`t think the shop were I bought it was the official agent in Norway.
